so, after this thread popped up i decided to step way outside my typical comfort zone and snag one of these samurai armadillos up. there wasn’t any hype or fanfare about this piece, but it does deserve some discussion. i didn’t bother looking at specs, or try to pull the thing apart with pics, videos and reviews. i’ve never owned a sengoku, i just took the dive.

this yoyo is wicked wide compared to anything in my collection, the rims alone stock out further than most pf my yoyos’ widths. it’s also seemingly a ‘performance’ style v-shape, and bimetal. these are all usually attributes that put yoyos in the ‘not preferred’ pile for me. i have two v-shapes in my collection, a ridgeback fire devil and an al7 wraith, and the last bimetal i had i think was a draupnir. i prefer monometal, smaller to mid size organics and h-shapes.

i’m not getting into a super technical review of this piece (still don’t care about the specs), but i’ll provide some feedback on my experience. this is a great yoyo. top-notch comfort, speed, balance and stability, long spin-time - basically everything you want in a yoyo. notice i didn’t say performance yoyo. maybe it’s my biased generalizations of v-shape throws, but there’s definitely something different about this one.

the steps are just so stinkin cool, it really makes the yoyo stand out. they almost look aggressive, but you’d never know playing it. it’s not a flat, lifeless yoyo - it has character, and i feel a majority of skill levels and people who are particular about their yos shape, style, appearance, etc. should consider giving this one a shot! straight up there is nothing wrong with this yoyo in my opinion. nicely done sengoku!

nitpick time. the yoyo arrived in a small unbranded velveteen satchel. i was - and this is my fault due to expectations - a little disappointed. small brands have to do it small, i get that. but the bag inside a box with the cool sengoku logo, would have gone a long way for presentation and first impression factor. does this impact the yoyo? heck no! this will remain in rotation for sure.

if you have questions let me know, thanks folks!

I also grabbed an armadillo and am equally impressed with it.

thank you for your feedback. Boxes is something I have considered. The old onese were discontinued from the manufacturer and others charge quite a lot oin terms of minimum quantity for personalized packing which is on the thousands of boxes when my productions are 200 yoyos max (2 runs of 100 for different colors). And still, I kept considering it until tariffs happened. Yoyos on unbranded pouches allow me to do intl free shipping from Japan. But hopefully, with threads like this, If I can reach the 500 yoyos per model, all this can change and even reduce the prices on top of that. Thank you for buying it!

Thank you!

R U coming to Japan this year? It would be awesome to meet you again. Perhaps this time we can have a beer! :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish I could so much. But finances will not allow.

I’m an avid Judoka and would very much like to visit Japan for that as well.

And of course to have a beer with you.
