Hey yall! Just a psa, probably preaching to the choir here but if the person you’re buying from insists on f&f instead of g&s or wants to use Zelle. They are likely a scammer.
Long story short: guy on fb market place Yoyo-collectors group hmu to sell his SPYY Stryker. He sent pics with the today’s date and other pics. When I came time to payment he insisted that I do f&f and not g&s, even after I offered to pay the fees. He sent his pp email, which didn’t match his name, then I admitted I was sketched out and requested another picture for further verification. Then he block me.
Be safe out there yall!
If I’m wrong on him or you have dealt with him lmk! I hope it’s not but seems it is a scam
No it’s weird that someone would be so insistent on F&F, even when you offer to cover the fees. Thanks for posting!
I had a scammer on Facebook say he wouldn’t use PayPal because Elon had ties with it. I got him to make an account but then said “for some reason” he could only accept F&F. Clowns.
I insist on F&F. I just don’t want to deal with any tax filing requirements owing to G&S. In other threads equating F&F to scam behavior, others have also said the same.
In OP’s situation, he highlights that the PayPal address name doesn’t match. (For me, there are other red flags in that conversation.) In that case, you probably should have sought additional verification and been prepared to walk away.
F&f is fine with me if you have a solid rep and a good community standing, I’ll do it any day, but this guy had no rep, no community standing, and a half cocked fb page, and when Zelle is mentioned that’s a majorrrr tool for scammers.
I like to have some faith in people but it was pretty much “3 strikes your out”
Tax filings? The limit is 2,500$ you selling 2,500 in Yoyo’s?
You never know the way some yoyos have gone to insane values. Maybe he’s selling a Peak.
I can say from my experience it’s a tax issue. Having multiple hobbies that are also collectable 2,500 isn’t all that much across a year. PayPal also requires a tax ID for anything GS over $600 in a year, so you may not have to file till $2,500 but they will start holding 20%+ after $600 if you don’t upload the information for taxes. I have several hobbies outside yoyo like EDC gear and knives just as one example. Some of those items can go $500-$1000 in one sale. So we should have to pay taxes twice on pre-owned items sold by people not businesses, items which by the way in many cases cannot be insured at the value they’re seen at anyway? I am not the owner operator of corbitsorbits miscellaneous hobbies LLC, I don’t have a resale license or any tax write offs as sole operator and proprietor? To me it’s like paying taxes because you had a yard/estate sale but did it online instead of out of your garage. I have been FF only for 15 years in many different hobbies, and have built a solid reputation with verifiable up to date feedback, so I will remain FF only regardless of any argument.
I understand that scammers are a problem in every community but that’s why you have to rep check, ask for more photos and info, and really verify to make sure you’re dealing with someone legit. I have no issue with people that are GS only and won’t buy FF, I respect that decision. What I don’t respect or appreciate is people saying when someone says FF only it’s a scam, or when people see FF only and message to buy them and get mad when you won’t take GS. like they figured they would just talk you into it last second.
Just wanted to add this community really it’s the best as far as all the hobbies I have. I have never in 5 years sent a GS payment to anyone I verified unless it had to be GS because they are a business. I have never had a single issue in this community it has always been top notch. But I have had people try to scam me. Just be careful and verify who you’re dealing with, you make awesome friends that way too!
It’s 2,500, not 600$. 600$ is for 2026
I get the 600 notice every other login.
This is good to know, I thought it was 600 as well. Thank you for posting!
Lot of misinformation. I asked a PayPal agent personally and was told this also
agreed full stop, especially because I tend to only lose money while BSTing .. so in the rare cases I profit off a yoyo (which usually happens by accident) it sucks paying taxes on what is effectively already a very poor use of funds
i get lots of dopamine though and support a great community
