Restoring a Great Yoyo: The Yoyojam Dark Magic

The Dark Magic has to be one of the best and my favorite yoyos ever made. I recently bought this Yoyojam Dark Magic, when i received it, the rims were very beat and there were several cracks in the yoyo.

Here were the dings:

The cracks were patched up with krazy glue:

And of course everything was tarnished and very dusty:

Here is the Dark Magic after the polish:

The krazy glue has been sanded down and polished:

And the IRG is perfectly satined:

Wow, amazing job man!

Thats sick! Good job!

OMG! That’s the same exact thing I did to mine!

Thanks guys!

Thats amazing bro. Do you recycle old yo-yos that are broken. Do you fix them up and sell them or what? You did an AMAZING job, I almost want to buy it ;D

I’m keeping this one! And turns out the krazy glue didn’t hold very well :stuck_out_tongue: So I had to do something else. The entire hub was starting to separate from the yoyo.

Yes, krazy/super glue is a surface adhesive that doesn’t adhere well to most plastics. And just applying it over the cracks as you did and not getting it into the cracks really doesn’t do much. You need something that wicks into the cracks and fuses the two surfaces together. I don’t know what that is for polycarbonate. Maybe some sort of solvent.

What did you do for it?

What I actually did was something I tried a while ago on my first Dark Magic, which ended up weakening the hub even more, but I think I nailed it this time. Basically, what I did was start to actually recess close to the nipple where the cracks are, that removed the cracks and the remaining cracks are fused together from the heat. The only problem is, there is little plastic between the bearing seat and the hub, so the recess was filled with an epoxy, JB Weld to be exact, and was painted over. The yoyo now is perfectly fine without any signs of further cracking.

I have a HM that Takeshi fixed by removing the hub and inserting a trimmed down hub from a Duncan Avenger, thus making it an “A” sized bearing HM.

I have a Trinity that is beat, and dull. Can you fix it up for me? I would be willing to pay.

Send me a pm ;D

How did you remove the caps? I just got a dm2 and while i love the yoyo, the caps are not my favorite. They rattle a bit.

Suction cup.
