Found this speedy shop tip to be useful, as I was going to build a custom spoke wheel set for this 70’s Graco Bicycle being made to look like 70’s RM125 motorcycle as clone. Turns out it is/was way cheaper to buy a Black Black wheel set and remove ano on rim to make silver black combo as needed.
On a side note…I don’t like ano yoyos cuz they tend to look like crap after being heavily used and slightly abused over time. Like new white shoes, only last so long.
No need to be snarky to Astroyama, he didn’t disagree or condescend to you. Describing “titanium” as the finish generally implies un-anodized titanium, at least in the yoyo world.
Polished titanium is in fact a finish as well as a material, just like polished stainless is a finish as well as a material. Materials such as this can be “finished” simply by buffing or polishing and don’t require a coating or anodizing to protect and beautify them.
There is no problem with Astroyama’s response, it was clear what he was referring to.
One day…… hopefully some time in the near future, I will try and polish something just for the experience.
Your explanation has inspired me to step up and learn more on the subject of metals and metal finishes.
I see things clearly now. I am so inspired by your words I quoted, that I copied them to paper and slipped the paper right between 2 of my library of books on the subject of Metallurgy that I have collected in the last 53 years of working with metal.
Seriously, I am just about the last person in the Western Hemisphere that needed your insight on metals and metal finishes. Waaaaay too funny.
And by the way… and it’s not your fault for not knowing. But Astro(David Noonan) and I have been friends for over 20 years. I was right their at Nats, cheering him on when he put on a very nice freestyle from a wheelchair and won the Most Inspirational Player Award.
David and I are both life long Customizers of many things.
We’re been sword fighting with each other for decades, lol.
He wants to save the World and I guess he thinks I don’t.
Of course, if you had already known that, you probably would not have bothered to suggest how or what I say to him.
And if you already knew how much I actually know about metals, metal finishing, metal polishing, you probably would not have bothered explaining things to me I have known since before you were born.
Hey, we all take turns learning from each other.
As I said, Astro and I go way back…. And we pull no punches. He’s a little on the far side of crazy… but who isn’t?
I have justification for my ignorance at least. Yes, I likely would have said something similar if I had known about your repartee with Astro. This is a public forum after all and not a private conversation between you two, and what you say comes off as somewhat rude and ignorant to the uninitiated.
Those books only work if you read them, you know. Open one up sometime, there are words inside.
You see, I just thought you were unintentionally ignorant.
But now that you are directly insulting me by suggesting I open a book when working with metal is how I make a living…
And, suggesting what I say comes off as ‘ignorant’…on subjects I happen to be very well experienced with.
Now, I know you are just Stupid.
That is not my fault but it is your problem.
Unless you a metal magician, I have forgotten more about metals than you will ever learn in your life, including any chances of your being reincarnated.
You can talk as much trash as you want on this public forum. Just tell me what kinda salad dressing you want to go with your meal.
If you read my previous post you’ll be glad to see that I did not call you ignorant. Note the “come off as” and “to the uninitiated”. If this is an example of your reading comprehension, then I’m not surprised you’re offended at the mere suggestion of reading a book, LOL!
Since you’ve devolved to straight out name-calling I don’t see any reasonable benefit in continuing to engage in this conversation. Although I feel like I should point out that you seem to boast a lot of your knowledge and experience without displaying much evidence of it. I’m not saying for a fact that you don’t have knowledge or experience, you probably do. It’s just that you do a good job of hiding it behind the bluster.
Yes by all means please disconnect from the problem that you precipitated and blame it on me I’ll take the hit. I should’ve been warned when I saw your screen name crazy Ivan. That’s not just a screen name that’s a warning.
Funny stuff.
I’m gonna go find a book with words inside and see if I can tell what they mean. Wish me luck.
This is a public service announcement to anybody that may be fortunate or unfortunate enough to fall into this thread. No real bones between me and crazy Ivan. He’s a pretty smart guy that is prompted to speak up when he thinks somebody’s being out of line. It doesn’t matter if they’re young Old geniuses idiots or somewhere in the middle as in my case.
I may not agree with opinions or suggestions directed at me from time to time. But I appreciate and respect any individuals willingness to step up and say something if they feel it needs to be said. We certainly can’t get along all the time. And we certainly can’t find out much about each other if people just wanna sit behind their keyboards and not have an opinion. For some people that do know me and don’t speak up because I may get cranky. It’s not a good reason. Say it anyway I don’t have to like it. You’re not necessarily saying things that I’m supposed to like. You’re speaking up because you disagree with what I said the way I said it or whatever. There’s nothing wrong with being a little assertive once in a while. I have pretty thick skin. It may seem that I don’t. That’s just because I am Almost always willing to respond. I can’t see any reason why anybody else on this forum should be fearful of chiming in.
In this particular instance I know just as little about Ivan as he knows about me.
That is a perfect lack of information level to stimulate assumptions as opposed to drawing factual conclusions. We can shoot at each other all day without hitting a thing.
I’d like to think that we all take turns learning something useful from each other, over time.
Ivan is a great contributor to this forum.
There is no rules stating I need to like or agree with everything he (or anybody)posts.
Life is a peach.
…. I do know ‘a little’ about metal/finishes/and/metal finishing.
Very generous post Doc! Appreciate the kind words, and all ribbing aside I’ve been on here long enough to know that you really do have a wealth of experience and knowledge and are a great contributor to the yoyo world both on and off of this forum.
Sometimes I do disagree with the way you present your opinions and I make an effort not to be offensive when pointing out my view, but I don’t claim to be a master of diplomacy either and I enjoy a good bout of words as much as the next guy (I’ve got a significant amount of Irish blood) so we spark. It’s happened in the past and it’ll happen again. But know that it won’t change my respect for your skills and what you do in this community even though I’ll surely still forget myself and type things that I regret later.
As you said, there are no rules requiring us to like or agree with everything the other says. But I’m glad you’re a member of this forum.
