if memory serves, rem oil is a gun cleaner, so I would think that it would, but to be on the safe side use something like lighter fluid, mineral spirits, or other things commonly used (and know to be safe for bearings)

I mainly use Rem-oil to lube bearings not clean. I clean with Ronsonol Lighter Fuel I think this is better than minerial spirits.

i have a couple of o lighters.i took a lighter apart and the fluid in side sprayed all over my hand an then my hand got realy cold.any way,that was one of the lighters than had the big long barel.now i have a couple of small bic lighters.how do i get the fluid out without it spaying. or are you supposed to buy lighter fluid in a bottle or something.

You should buy lighter fluid in a rectangular can. You could probably find this at wal-mart.

That was a butane lighter. Dangerous to take apart. Could blow up and take off a few fingers.

The lighter fluid he is talking about is a liquid that comes in a plastic container.http://www.jamesdire.net/ronsonol.jpg Basically has the same feel as mineral spirits. Neither works better than the other. They are both excellent at cleaning bearings.

Or you could use Charcoal lighter fluid. basically the same thing. Works great and most people have it.
