Quick Picture Poll for my forum avatar

Nice mixer. http://www.glowingcow.com/thumbsup.gif

Yes, but I’ve done lots of country, jazz, contemporary jazz, J-rock, industrial, R&B, hip-hop, classical, and many, many other styles of music as well. My tastes are wide and varied, which helps me properly serve the needs of the bands I am having to mix.

Given a choice, it would be metal and industrial metal. But, I like taking a break and mixing other stuff. There’s plenty of videos on my site. Realize that sometimes the board mix must be done to accommodate the environment, meaning that I may have to bring things up and down to compensate for stuff blasting through. I"m investing in sound shields for this next year so I can try to get stage volumes under control.

Thanks. That’s 76 channels of pure analog awesomeness!

Wow! I love that consider my keyboard ruined! Haha. I believe I mentioned I have 2 of those SLX mics, but I wasn’t happy with the antenna so I upgraded them to the longer ones. Shure Model UA820G. Found that my range and clarity was greatly enhanced because of it. With an attempt to try and stay on topic, I absolutely love the robot throwing down the double or nothing. Perfect picture there. I also love the simple background you chose with the pretty color trees. We don’t get that here in Florida, it is green, or dead! We have summer all year long with 2 weeks of winter when it drops to 50 degrees and we are all wearing ski suits and canceling gigs due to extreme cold! Anything below 55 in Florida is considered a snow day

Ooops!

Having the 1/2 wave antennas can help, but I find the best are the paddles, since they are directional. Active are over-priced, narrow-band and as a result, can be either a major expense or a major hassle. Once I upgraded to the U844 amp/distro, I was able to keep my receivers at FOH since I end up mixing both monitors and FOH from one desk. My range is around 300 feet. I also have a pair of ground plane antennas for the older VHF gear, to the point where I intend to get some more VHF gear just to have more capability and options in the crowded UHF bands.

The Shure unit at the top and the pair of AT units at the bottom are in the back now.
Actually, this whole rack was redone and moved into another rack that’s double sided.

Double sub-kick insanity:

Each kick had a Yamaha Subkick, an Audix D6(in the hole) and a Shure Beta 91 in the shell.
Sennheiser e604’s on toms, Audix i5 on snare top/bottom, AT ATM450 on hat and I think I was using Audix F15’s for overheads. I tend to buy kick drum mics in pairs for just such an occasion. I also have a pair of AKG D-112’s and 3 Shure Beta 52As, and a total of 3 Beta 91’s as well. I’m not sure what I used on his floor toms, maybe some AT Pro 35 clip-ons?

Stage lights are mine too! Excuse the mess, I don’t get a whole lot of room to work. I use the bins to build my “fortress of solitiude”.
This is winter, SacANime 2011, last day. The lady on the inside is talking about making costumes.
Note: The plush is NOT mine, it belongs to one of the girls who works with me a lot on SacAnime and the Repo shows I do.

Ahh, yes. I’ve been a drummer for twelve years, and after high school (jazz band and pep band) i really only wanted to play metal and super heavy stuff (which provided an interesting twist to my style after being a jazz drummer forever). After a few years of that i decided to branch out and play some other genres, i.e. classic rock, jazz, and blues. That was the BEST decision i could have made as a progressing musician. Its good to branch out and not limit yourself to one style. So i can get where your coming from. Though, i will always have the metal head in me. hehe, ;D. Same can be said for yoyoing brands! Theres actually been alot of posts about that lately. Thanks for showing us your gear chris!

I vote robot

Well, the votes are in. We’ll all see what happens fairly soon.

Thanks again for all who participated. Thanks also to all who didn’t participate, because for whatever reason, you chose to not vote and I respect that.

As you can see, there’s more to what we do than the yoyo. I’ve given you all a peak into how the backbone of how shows work. That’s my my passion and what I enjoy above all else. It’s not private, since I have my web site dedicated to it, but it is very personal for me. Rocking a great mix and running a concert is a fantastic high for me, but elements of my personal life often have me in a very deep low(depression). The yoyo has been a wonderful way to keep the lows in check. I can also thank YYE and this forum for this help in helping me. If it wasn’t for the tutorial videos I found here and what help I got from those, I wouldn’t be here.

So, again thanks for the votes. It’s appreciated. I’m going to go ahead and leave the thread open for a bit longer.

nice pics but maybe it would be cooler if your looking at the camera. Trapeze and bro maybe? If not maybe if you dont want to look at the camera do an action shot like a GT suicide?

That would be cool if I could do any of those. I could probably handle Trapeze and Bro. Keep in mind, I’ve only been doing this for 6 months, it’s not coming easily AND I often go days without being able to practice.

Also, I was constantly having to correct the tilt of the yoyo to keep it straight for the camera. Well, that and I don’t actually like being photographed.

Sorry for the necro. Just had something to say:

OK, by now you’ve all figured out what the purpose of this poll was for.

I was informed a bit ago that I was chosen to be a forum expert, and it actually took me a couple of days to actually absorb the information. It didn’t make sense to me. I’m by no means a yoyo expert, or even proficient, I’m a noob who is learning and struggling, but at the same time, having a great time with it. I’m learning and sharing and doing what comes naturally to me and having a great time at that.

So, a little back story. My staff photograher was supposed to take the picture but she’s really busy right now, so I was given a little reminder to see when the picture would be available, so I figured, I have resources, why not try to use them. So, out of the shots that I got(variations of the same thing), these were the best 3 in my opinion.

Here’s the kicker:
I was leaning towards the robot shot. You guys picked the robot shot. Even Andre picked the robot shot. So, it seems we’re all in agreement that it’s the robot shot.

So, it’s an honor to be chosen as a forum eXpert. I want to thank everyone who helped me get there, and I want to thank everyone who voted on the poll for the picture. If anyone wants help, I will do my best to help. I often idle on the chat room, but you can reach me there, or hit me up on Yahoo IM or AIM if you want as well. I have Skype, but I barely/rarely even bother with it. I’m not on Facebook or Twitter, but it seems I need to get on board with those. You’re here for the same reason I am: to learn more about the yoyo and enjoy it more.

Again, thank you! I am honored and humbled.
