So I am going to dye one or two polycarbonate yoyos soon. I know everything I need to know except for one thing. Can I use mineral spirits as the solvent, or do I have to use acetone?
You need to use acetone. Mineral spirits won’t work. The purpose of the acetone is to soften the surface so it takes the dye better. Mineral spirits won’t do that. Just don’t over do it so you end up with a shapeless blob of plastic.

I dyed my chaser orange in boiling water, you can do that I think. It just took a while
