About 15 years ago I decided to focus on 5A, stopped doing offstring and gave my diabolos to the charity shop. Even with some background knowledge these are very hard tricks to land, or hard to not look stupid when you do.
Could everyone who’s making progress drop an update on what setup they prefer?
I’ve had best experience with my Werrd Doomsday, mostly because it’s happy to wait for me to think about what I’m next. That being said, I will definitely break it if I’m learning new offstring tricks.
I’ve been practising on a Duncan FHZ just because I don’t mind destroying it. It works, but not as well as I’d like (which is how I’ve felt about this throw regardless of what style I’m playing).
I don’t have many strings to test but I’m guessing the stiffer, the better?
As for CWs, I’m happy using my leather jackets. Sometime soon I’ll make a pair of Diabolo sticks about as long as the width of my palm. If they don’t move fast enough then probably still good for practising

Sounds awesome! String doesn’t matter too much as long as it’s longer since you’ll need more length to be able to wind the double strings back up to rethrow.
In that regard I suppose a string that’s slightly thicker for better grip would also be beneficial
Yeah, I already know all my string is too short. Need to find a custom maker in Australia.
I used to make Diabolo setups from braided Dacron line from the kite shop. I could choose the line weight and buy any length straight off the spool. No twist, super smooth

I never have the space (or time) to use my actual diabolos so I should probably start learning this style. It is a bit more technical, but it is otherwise just a good way to minimize a diabolo trick. I can’t wait for people to adapt soloham to fit this style and/or play horizontally.
