The aluminum one is LIGHT, I don’t think I’ve ever thrown that light. It certainly has an a Tin or hollow sound that continues to ring. The play is kinda wild, a bit jumpy, and barely feels like I have anything on the string. Oddly addictive given that it’s not necessarily my cup of tea at 40gs. The aluminum version could rip harder if it was a bi-metal or just had some more meat on the rims,
The titanium is where it’s at imo. The Ti-ng-ring-ping on the design is a chefs kiss. The weight is exactly where it needs to be and shape calls to the classics of Dif-e, and the Radian; simple & wonderful. Love it.
The finish has a little room for improvements, given that it’s just raw-cut, a little polish to smoothing out some of the markings would be ideal; but true-raw is not unwelcome. (I would be a sucker for a mirror-like finish to complement that perfectly executed ripple hub.
Overall absolutely fantastic work my friend!
Definitely something I want to add to my collection.
Ripple is the lightest and largest of them all. It feels hollow and tinny in comparison to the slightly more compact throws. If I rip the hubs stacks off the 444 it gets closer to the ripple but hubs are weird fun things.
Because the yyf 44 and others are smaller more dense they play less floaty on the string. Honestly they play “better” but that’s because the al was designed to be a different material. This is like my friend who designed a heavy al yoyo that got made in ti on accident and ended up 120g
I mean I’ll reiterate that the aluminum version was never really intended to function. It was literally just a throwaway unit to test my tool path in the machine. Someone wanted to do some more destructive testing on a super thin wall aluminum yo-yo, so I gave them the aluminum test unit I made. They came back and told me that not only was it very difficult to damage but also weirdly fun to play with. It made an appearance at a DXL Meetup in Los Angeles, and that sentiment was echoed by quite a few people. So I decided to make a few more and get them into a wider play pool to see what more people thought
Didn’t mean that to come off as defensive at all, I just find it interesting that something I made as a literal throw away works this well, hit-or-miss as it may be
If my attempt to direct traffic is making things more complicated then don’t let me mess up the order of things. If you and @Cmchappell97 wanna just coordinate amongst yourselves then please do!
Okay so sorry got caught up in a busy stressful work week where I avoided a layoff narrowly but I’ll get the al one to the next asap. I also got the ti now
Aluminum ripple drop is in my mailbox. Heading home from putt putt golf to check it out This thing is cool! Like a tin balloon. Gotta pay attention for sure. It is a bit of a headhunter, featherweight with attitude. The optical illusion of the ripple as it reflects around itself is nice.
I like this thing. Especially when I sneak in a last minute bind and it’s so light it still makes it back to the hand. Okay, whose next on the list @Lotaxi ? Gonna get it shipped before I forget and drop the ball
