How difficult is it to manufacture a vibe-free yoyo out of wood? I havent seen many… i always figured it is because wood doesnt grow in one uniform density throughout. Is there a way to get sections of a tree that are uniform enough to give you a fairly high expectation of a balanced final product?
Do you have any tips, tricks, or “things I wish I knew” for those who are looking to begin making their own wooden yoyos, from design to production?
What are the pros and cons of working with multiple layers of wood vs turning a solid piece?
Maybe that is how they get around the uneven densities in a solid piece of wood. Now I really want to know if your question is the answer to my question, LOL!

Hopefully we find out I’m sure someone like @Glenacius_K or @Nic_from_Adelaide could chime in if one of our questions isn’t chosen.
What do you think is the hardest trick to do with a wooden yoyo?
Any plans for other wood unresponsives?
Would you explore doing just wood and not hybrid?
I believe the resin keeping the different laminated pieces of maple together helps fill into the pores of wood to allow for a more uniform density throughout the blank.
Could def be wrong but that’s my understanding!
What was the development process like for the Maple? I find it clever the inner metal ring also serves to allow for a removable cap as opposed to wood-on-wood.
It was the Spintastics Tornado. It was the cheapest ball bearing yoyo that I could afford at the time. Fast forward 5 years, and I was invited to join team spinstastics. That yoyo represent the beginning of my yoyo journey.
That sounds like a fun project..Let me know if any one would like to see a metal version? On a side note, a hybrid delrin version is currently in the works.
How about a fixie project?
So hyped for that version!! Same specs or little tweaked for the material?
Henry…. Paul and I go waaaay back. I talked to him personally, so you wouldn’t have to wait until tomorrow for the answer to your question.
Paul said it’s a Project that involves the use of Maple.
Laminated wood has more consistent density than ‘solid’ wood, due to being layered with resin.
Awesome work making a wooden unresponsive!
- What brought forth the passion for wanting to create the best wooden unresponsive yoyo?
You have piqued my interests…
The name went through 3 phases. “Born Crucial”, “Crucial”, and now “The Crucial Life”. Back in 2006, I was really into street wear and fashion. I wanted a name that positions the brand as a lifestyle brand rather than just a yoyo brand. In the early days, I used to design apparel and accessories such as hats and clothing influenced by streetwear. Like a fashion brand that is ever evolving, directions may have changed a little, but the spirit is still the same…my love for yoyos.
The next yoyo release will be a hybrid delrin called Milky. Target release is August.
