I managed to score a Rebirth and a set of spike Side Effects, wanted to grab some flat sides but they were sold out already. Excited for the Rebirth though, it’s beautiful.
I got one coming too brother, you enjoying that Intro? I had UPS do the packaging, if it’s not too much trouble, did they package it with bubble wrap all around the yoyo? I paid them too and I just want to double check.
So the one you sent me just showed up today from what my wife told me, I actually have another I’ve been throwing that I got with a Nitro at the same time. I’ve been loving it so far. If I had to guess I think I’m going to be throwing the Intro and Rebirth the most for awhile and use the Nitro more once I can appreciate how it plays faster. I will definitely keep you posted on how they packaged it. I can’t wait to have it in that color way.
Hey all, do any of you have experience with the difference in play between the Free Solo and Top Deck? Any information would be great.
In my experience, the Top Deck spins longer and with more power than the Free Solo. It also probably edges out the Free Solo in terms of plane stability, but none of this should be surprising given the Top Deck’s insane weight distribution. I also find the Top Deck more comfortable in the hand, but rounded body contours tend to do that. Since the Free Solo isn’t quite the performance beast that the Top Deck is, it can probably be thought of as more “floaty and chill” by comparison, though the Free Solo is not exactly a “floaty and chill” yoyo in the same way that an even weight-distributed organic would be. Neither yoyo is suitable for fingerspins due to their protruding axle studs. While they are both pretty low-walled, I’d probably give the edge to the Free Solo when it comes to horizontal play simply due to the straighter V shape of its catch zone.
Thanks for the very thoughtful and thorough comparison between the 2. I think you’ve probably pushed me towards getting a Top Deck, it sounds pretty awesome.
It is.
huh, did not expect this. always thought it was the reverse. shape wise you would think the free solo would be the performer because of the sharper shape, with the top deck being the comfort pick but with that competitive edge.
This is how I feel about the two. Free Solo all day baby.
Yeah, you would think that, but the magic is in the weight distribution. The Top Deck has a perilously thin body, and most of the weight sits at the outer rims. That’s how it “out-performs” most V shaped yoyos with similar specs. In fact, I would venture to say it compares surprisingly well to most bi-metals.
yeah they both work that 7075 magic but going by the love it gets top deck takes advantage of it more, i guess. the thinness of it makes me recall that one unfortunate soul that overtightened theirs to the point of the hub tearing clean off.
side note, all this is hyping me for my incoming top deck like mad haha
If you like One Drop flat bearings then you are in for a real treat. The Top Deck absolutely rips with that bearing.
The Parlay hands down. Everything about that throw is perfect.
