Daaaang… haven’t been Rick rolled in a hot minute

It’s not no bearing, it is a wooden yo-yo type “bearing”, isn’t it? Fixed axle is a thing. All the hipsters are into it, Glen! You want to be cool, don’t you, Glen? Dontcha?
-
And yes, for me personally, a metal fixie would be preferable versus a flat bearing. That’s just my opinion, of course. At least the bearing blank would be interesting to play, whereas flats are not, for me…
-
Yes, it’s no bearing and I’m not cool.
-
You’re a bit crazy.
Luftverk sells 'em, man! Heck YYE sells 'em! I am not making this up!
What better way to show off your Ninja Eugene Oregon Machining Skills™ than some artisanal made-in-the-USA fixed axle bearing blanks?
I’m just sayin’
But Onedrop don’t sell fixed axle yoyos, they sell unresponsive yoyos… Madness.
Man, I wasn’t going to reply and it was looking like this thread was dead and gone. But it seems like you, with your vested interest in this forum having activity, have successfully baited us back into this. It’s not lost on me when you necro bait us with controversial posts on old threads. But I guess I’m a sucker, so here goes.
Two separate things you are kind of conflating: selling fixie bearings vs having them be the default in our yoyos. Totally different things.
My thoughts on fixies:
-
We had the idea for fixie bearings sometime around 2009 and actually made some tests/protos. It was to be called the “Beach Buddy”. We never found it was worth pursuing though.
-
I can say so with confidence that if we started shipping our yoyos with fixies we’d be out of business pretty quick. That’s one of the worst suggestions that I’ve seen in this whole thread. So I won’t be taking your advice and tanking my business. Thanks though
By miles.
Yeah like, maybe I disagree about switching to a string nudging bearing, but it’s not a bad suggestion. I totally get why you all would suggest that. But the fixie idea is kind of absurd.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a fixie, but, when I buy a One Drop, I want the OD 10ball flat. Yoyo, bearing, response…they all work together as a system.
Why though? It’s super easy to replace that bearing blank, because of the awesome loose bearing seat. And everyone loves buying just the right bearing that they exactly prefer, right? Replacement is expected, even encouraged?
If nothing else, you have a good cop - bad cop vibe going on here. Maybe that string nudging bearing isn’t such bad idea after all @da5id
In fairness it was @Markmont, not @codinghorror that brought the thread back to life. (I seriously thought about deleting his post when he made it actually)
99 in 100 players would prefer a flat bearing over a fixie.
No offense, but I would stop pursuing this if I were you.
I know you think you are being clever using my logic on me. But it’s a false equivalence.
Coding tagged me though and brought up the fixie bearings - Mark didn’t comment on that nor did he tag me.
Pfff logic doesn’t work on people. It’s all emotion!
Then why did you try and use logic? hahahaha. Can we now say we’ve jumped the shark?
We’re just here to have fun with yo-yos! After we’ve swapped out the bearing of course!
As a side note, we wouldn’t be able to properly quality test with a fixie bearing. Unless we tested with a regular bearing and then swapped it out. This would raise the price on our yoyos because of extra labor time, and they wouldn’t work correctly out of the box. That would be awesome.
You’re right! This centering bearing idea is sounding better and better!
I think it was the post before Mark and then Mark just stumbled upon it
