One Drop Flat Bearings Are Outdated: Change My Mind

“Flat”tered, are you? Oh, I see what you did there. :yum:

All I know is I was ready to put my new Legendary Terrarian away and let it become a dust collector for awhile.
Until someone suggested I swap the bearing for a concave.
Hven’t been able to put the yo down since!
I went from being quite frustrated with it, to totally loving it!

Idk, I’m not in your brain.

I’m not accusing anyone, but I’m genuinely curious if this is a possibility. In order to test this, we’d need to be have a few people throw a series of tricks with both flat bearings and centering bearings, and they couldn’t know which one was which. We could tell some of them the they were throwing a flat, when in actuality they were throwing a centering, and vice-versa. I think it would be an interesting experiment.

I would bet money I could tell the difference in a blind test.

Here’s some observations I’ve found when I played with flats and concaves side by side.

-The yoyo completely fizzles out a lot quicker and easier at low rpms, as can be seen in my 2nd video, which btw I did multiple trials. This is something you can physically see as the player or the viewer.

-Flats start losing spin power faster because the string is rubbing against the response more. You can feel this as a player. And Maybe you can’t directly see this as a viewer but you can see the results. The yoyo dies earlier with flats.

-Yoyo tilts and turns more easily with flats. This can be felt and can be alleviated somewhat by concentrating more. But same can be said for anything, the more you concentrate, the better the results should be.

Pretty crazy to me if all that is a placebo.

Lowkey wanna scatter an equal number of flat and concave bearings on a table and pick one up randomly with a pair of pliers and assemble the yoyo without looking to do an actual blindtest

But then I’d probably be accused of purposefully or unconsciously looking at the bearing during play to figure out what I’m using :man_shrugging:

Me too. Flats just simply feel different.

Just get a third party to choose and assemble the yoyo!

A centering bearing utterly transformed the behavior of my first VTWO and Top Deck yoyos, and I’ve put Boss Rage bearings in every One Drop I’ve purchased ever since. It makes a huge difference for me.

Naw bruh - you gotta just put in more hours. It was just as noticeable to feel the diff between concave and flat in the 00s as it is now to feel the diff between centering and flat. This is very very distantly far from subjective.

Can I add I love both for different throws.

Funny I was just digging through this thread last night bc I got my first One Drop. Love the throw, still undecided on flat :man_shrugging:

Which One Drop did you get?

re-edit

  • Yes flat bearings, no centering
  • Yes flat bearings, centering is ok
  • Flat is ok, yes centering
  • No flat, yes centering
  • Both bearings for different throws
  • Idk

Flat bearings aren’t outdated, just as fixed axle wooden yoyos aren’t.

Whatever helps you enjoy yoyoing, and helps you continue your journey, will always be in style.

I prefer my beer in a glass.

Honestly, I think flat bearings are more outdated than wood axle yo-yos, even.
