Alrighty… all the videos are in! I will put up separate “viewing and discussion” threads during my break today. There’s a small chance I’ve still missed a person, so I will hold off on the voting link until later on, but you can get your viewing started once the videos are up.
(last year I missed a person and felt awful! Trying to avoid that this year by using a spreadsheet and periodic check-ins, but I’m a paranoid kinda guy)

If I’ve missed you, drop me a line!
One of the sponsors has had a supply problem, so the prizes will be rejigged a bit. The slightly more “popular” division turned out to be Division Two, so it will have the Yomega Glide. I am going to add a YYJ Hitman X (new in box) to Division One and figure out how to shuffle errthang else around just a little.
Exciting! Watch this space for the video links! A small selection of people took advantage of the extension to make tweaks to their edits… once the videos are posted, please check your own to confirm that I’ve posted the correct link for that as well (again, I kept my spreadsheet up to date AFAIK, but I’m paranoid after last year!).
Good luck competitors! And may the one who overcomes their creakiness to best effect win!
Greg
Alright, that prize rejig mention elicited some concern by PM, so I shall clarify!
Tropic Spins is in the middle of their production run of the Capricorn. As you know, some bearings simply come from the factory sub-par. By the time they selected the bearings for their production run, they did not have one to spare for the contest and asked me with utmost diplomacy and tact if they could withdraw that part. The strings are still in the pool!
I happen to have a new in box Hitman X here just waiting to go to some lucky winner. The prize pool is down one bearing and up one yoyo. That’s all! Everything else is still intact.
Last warning for competitors to make sure they’re on the list and that I haven’t blown the mission! Once the polls open, that’s it. The voting link will go live between 5 and 6pm EST today.
Friday at 10pm EST. This will give people enough time to evaluate and vote. Especially since the videos are already available for viewing in advance of the vote itself.
Cannot wait to see all the videos.
I wish someone could do a similar competition for people who have been in the hobby for a few months. Hahaha… We will do walk the dog, double or nothing, breakaway etc.
well, last year, we had a huge battle royale where any forum members could compete, put up by Alex Fairhurst. Then there was an Under 1 year yoyo battle, put up by Andy. And then there was a 1-2 year yoyo battle put up by Wilson. I hope this summer will be as exciting.
Apparently some links aren’t working on mobile. That kinda sucks due to how big mobile is right now.
The main way to resolve this is… get to a computer. It’ll be a better viewing experience anyhow.
In the meantime, competitors that want to make absolutely sure that their video can be seen anywhere can upload a no-soundtrack version and share that link with me. I will put it in parentheses next to your main link.
Also if your video won’t play on mobile because of audio issues, you can swap out the copyright audio with other audio by going to https://www.youtube.com/my_videos, and edit the audio in you video. There’s a list of songs that are available for use in your youtube videos.
Nothing to apologize for, even if you’re one of them! It’s nobody’s “fault”, my “which sux” refers to YouTube, not the people uploading. Haha! thehandcoder’s tip could be useful, too.
Prerequisites: Be a YYE member and have an opinion! You do not need to understand “contest judging”.
Overview: Voters are asked to cast votes based on trick execution. Voters do not need to count string hits or even have a particularly educated opinion… if a yoyoer has tricks that for whatever arbitrary reason “look better / seem better / impress more”, that’s where the vote should go.
It is not an artistic performance or art direction (nice-looking or well-edited video) contest; I want yoyoers to feel comfortable that shooting 1 minute on their phone will still put them on equal footing with the “movie directors” out there!
Example of Doing it Right: You might think to yourself, “wow, ThrowerX looked great there. Those tricks put a smile on my face, and that one at 0:30 was just awesome-looking. I liked ChuckerY’s tricks a lot, too, but there was something about ThrowerX’s tricks that just kept me more interested!”
Example of Doing it Wrong: You might think to yourself, “I know ThrowerX had some real bangers, but that shaky camera phone made it a bit hard to follow. ChuckerY might not have been as smooth, but I really liked their fancy setting and using a nice camera sure helped make a better overall impression.”
Those are just examples… I’m merely trying to emphasize that you are to exercise your opinion, but that the opinion should be about tricks.
I am now re-watching them all again for about the 3rd or 4th time (5th time for some). This is VERY hard!! So many of the videos I wanna vote for for so many reasons… Darn this is harder than I thought it would be…
