Numb fingers

Has anyone else here experienced soreness in their forearms. Along with stiffness in the hands and numb fingers? I’m just trying to figure out if this is more yoyo and begleri related or if it’s kind of work related since I’m a mechanic. I’ve been throwing and slinging for like 4-5 months and I’ve had this in the past before I started but not to the degree I’ve been getting it recently. It seems like it’s the worst on Sunday. My day off. After I stay up late throwing and slinging.

I while back my fingers started going numb then it spread to my arm. Found out it was a pinched nerve in my neck.

Depending on age it could be things like carpal tunnel or arthritis. I would talk to your doctor

Hi mate, I know those symptoms very well:

Carpal tunnel
Tennis elbow

Or both together, is probably related to your work and maybe the begleri (but not sure begleri), I never had issues with yoyo but get it many times playing guitar/piano.

If you can, stop your activities and rest also at work, see a doctor, sleep with a brace that keep your wrist still when you sleep (many people crush their nerve while they sleep).

If Sunday you woke up like that is probably cause you had the issue before and triggered even more while playing.

But asap see a doctor as it can be also a nerve trapped on your back.

I kind of had a feeling it was one these things. I figured a good place to ask was here since everyone is all into the same hobbies. If it was related to any of them then you would all know or have experienced it before. At least this means I don’t have to consider giving any of these hobbies up.

I tried begleri for a few months. I started experiencing stiffness and soreness in my fingers. I quit begleri and it went away. :man_shrugging:

As an arthritic middle aged man with hand and back issues I get it. Probably a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel. I get numbness on my right when I I loop allot on that hand and my back gives up on me if I’m standing in one spot barefoot trying to nail something for a few hours.

Tiger balm is my go to for the pain. As for numbness idk I just stop
And wait for it to clear up… kind of annoying but such is life.

I’m sore all the time not in a bad way but In like a good way like after a regular work out but it’s usually my throw arm the most like upper and forearm but also hands and fingers. This seems normal to me especially for where you are in Yoyo like still new enough to be growing new weird muscles in your arms and hands even like my hands are sore right now from Yoyo. I think being sore is okay if it goes away when you warm up like all muscles, big and small. if it still hurts after that I think you should take a little time off and see how you feel because you don’t want it to become anything more serious like arthritis or carpal tunnel if you can help it…also drink a lot of water.

Numbness is not good and that means something is pressing on the nerve tendons somehow not a professional so I don’t want to give advise there but stretching gently is never bad and might help if it’s just really tight. How good is your mobility through your hands and wrists?

Mobility is ok. If I work my arms and use them, the stiffness will go away but the numbness tends to stick around. Tingly type feeling like you would get in your leg when you’re sitting the wrong away. It’s just a constant for a couple of days at a time.

If you haven’t already, it’s time to talk with a doctor

Yeah constant numbness is not good I would see a doctor

In anything we do repetitively, soft tissue injuries can occur.

I am assuming, Yoyoers generally do not stretch or warm up.

In your case, look for Carpel Tunnel stretches. Forearm stretches.

Some pre session stretch and warm up may help. Could also aid in your profession too. Also post play stretching too.

Following up with a Doctor is recommended.

Have Fun.

I try to fight carpal tunnel with thumb and forearm stretches and wrist rotation. Not sure if that’s the best way. I work at a computer, so i feel particularly at risk.

An old boss of mine had carpal tunnel surgery, and it sounded like it turned out pretty well for him.

I had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists and it is definitely a 100% improvement

These can be signs of some kind of disease so visit a doctor asap.

As someone who has been dealing with spine problems for the last 20-25 years (martial arts and weights are NOT healthy or to be precise, were not healthy in the 90’s where only the strong survived  but they are still fun to do) and a proud owner of occasionally numb fingers, I can say with confidence - it depends

But jokes aside - reasons may vary - as guys said, the most common ones are carpal tunel or pinched nerve, but 100% that needs a consultation with a specialist. In my case it was both - very early stage of something that might have evolved into carpal tunel, I got set of targeted excercise and I’m using wrist rests both for keyboard and mouse but it’s also connected to muscle tension and I need to get my forearms taken care of from time to time (after physiotherapy it’s ok for few weeks).

That said - it is something not to mess around with, go see a doctor, most probably in a month or two there problem will be gone, but if that thing is just left alone it might leave you with injuries impossible to fix.

I actually set up a doctors appointment for the morning. I posted this just hoping to rule out the yoyo and begleri but it also came with some good tips that im going to look into. I probably would’ve put off a doctors appointment until I couldn’t move. So thank u all for those responses. My hands get beat up as a mechanic and my hobbies just keep the abuse going. Im a blue collar guy and im guessing middle age is just catching up to me now. Hearing all ur responses about dealing with these issues and still being able to throw makes me feel alot better about everything too. So a lot of good things came out of everyone’s responses.

Nice! Mine wound up being tendinitis. Also from my job and not the yo-yos! Though the throws can flare things up. Of course I’m in tech so RSI’s are almost a sure thing. Fingers crossed you get back on track!

I’m also in tech. All my RSIs were resolved by making very small changes to my workspace setup. My most acute pain was in my index finger which was resolved by switching from a flat mouse to a vertical mouse. I had wrist pain that was resolved by locking my chair back and sitting up straight with feet flat on the floor. I had eye strain and resolved it by adjusting my monitor height and distance and adjusting my habits to take frequent breaks (where in this case taking a break just meant not looking directly at the monitor).

I say this all to be encouraging. If your numb fingers just started happening there are probably some small and easy changes that you can make to your every day that will help you feel better.

I do still think it’s worthwhile to see a doctor, but I would have a good long think about your ergonomics as well.

Ended up being de quervains. So some steroids and sleeping with a brace and hopefully I’ll b good to go. Being that it’s in my thumb. The begleri could be flaring it up but I’m sure it’s mostly due to turning wrenches, nuts and bolts all day long. I’d imagine typing on my phone like I am right now probably doesn’t help either lol all my work orders are on an app on my phone too.
