New pom yoyo

Had a bit of time during work, so decided to make a slightly bigger version of the last one I did.

56mm diameter

44mm wide

65 gram

It’s slightly too light for my taste, might make another one with added rim weight but plays fast though.

Next version, changed quite drastically. It was too hard to fingerspin consistent so had to allow more slope towards the center. Thus the outer profile needed changing too.

Same diameter and width but landed at 67.5 grams. Might revise it some more but it’s getting close

what a pretty looking yoyo , remind me of my delrin wedge (one of my favorite)

dont worry nobody actually do the dna fingerspin anymore , lol

Still, having the option to do them easily is nice I think. I kind of like the challenge of adding that to the yoyo.

Just googled the wedge, looks awesome! Probably plays just as good.

I’m not done with this yet, it needs some more work I feel

Added some rim weight, previous halve in picture to compare but kind of hard to see what changed.

Forgot to bring my scales but feels pretty good as it is. Did revert to alu inserts though. Might make a batch of alu inserts and get them anodized. The stainless ones are great but add 3 to 4 grams centerweight.

So, finally got home from work. Seems I gambled correctly as the weight is at 68.2 grams. Previous version was at 64 grams with alu inserts and the first version at 61 with the same inserts. Done with this one.

100% misread that title lol and was like “ok that’s GOTTA break the user agreement, right?”.

Yoyo looks rad though!!!

Saw that you commented in the thread and I was like, oh my goodness, is this gonna be a Delrin Responsive lol

Very cool design OP.

So this arrived at my doorstep today.

I think I agree with you on the weight. The white one is just a little underpowered. It’s good fun though. The red one is a little undersized. Good chunk of power and stability for such a small plastic.

Going to order some titanium for the guts, I’m using stainless washers and alu inserts at the moment so I figured making it all in titanium should keep the weight around the same.

I only hope tapping that M4 thread isn’t going to be a hassle.

Waiting on the supplier to provide me a price for the material, hoping it’s not ridiculous…

Very cool.

I managed to find titanium at a ridiculously low price to machine inserts and spacers. I’ve only ordered 20 inches of it for now as it seems to be too good to be true.

I bought some gr2 titanium from a trusted supplier at work so I can compare the two.

I just hope threading the inserts won’t be too frustrating….

Aside from that I’m planning to try my hand at making a 4a yoyo. Should buy one first as I only have an old offstring Yoyojam laying around that used a small bearing and had no response system (Modded it to C-bearing and yyf response pads, so I have no clue how a good 4a yoyo is set up these days)

Also have an undersized stainless butterfly I’m thinking of doing but I’d love to find a European supply of freehand caps for that, and for other projects.

Very busy with the whole house boat project at the moment so the yoyo stuff is getting pushed to the background. Updates will be slow.

Greets,

Wanted to see how the grade 5 titanium machines, it’s doable but slow. Will be great for bearing spacers, but overkill for the inserts. I’ll use the softer grade 2 for those.

Heavier spacers are stainless 316

titanium gr2 inserts. A lot easier to machine compared to the harder gr5.

Got no scale here but the weight saved feels good. I made this yoyo for alu guts originally so it could be a tad lighter. Sits at 69gr as it is, might aim for 66 - 67gr if I have time.
