New bearing for yoyo

So the bearing to my recess snack is junk as it was responsive right out of the box. I don’t feel like cleaning it, so could you guys recommend some good unresponsive bearings to a small yoyo like the snack?

UPDATE: Cleaned out the bearing using some mineral spirits and it’s working good for the most part, only responds when accidental binds happen now.

snack takes c bearings if i remember correctly, just take a bearing out of any other unresponsive yoyo you have and it should work

Check out Atmos concave bearings. Great values and super premium feeling. Shipping from Singapore takes a bit but you’ll be happy.

Personally I am a fan of atmos or rain city bearings (especially the 5 packs). As stated above, they take a while to get stateside, but are solid contenders!! If you are looking for more premium bearings, G2 has some nicer high end stuff (ceramics). You Can also always snag a couple pixel (CLYW) or nsk’s from YYE for good performing bearings that many people have opinions on but are pretty much tried and true.

I think you can just use every other bearing in your yoyos or spare ones, I would not disturb myself going to buy premium stuff for the Snack for sure a good yoyo but you risk that only the bearing value is half of the yoyo, I think you can go easier and buy the YYF stock ones or every other stock bearing around (Sochi are pretty nice too), I will keep the expensive bearing for your expensive yoyos (or more performing ones).

Not a waste of money but you can save a lot buying “standard” bearings that work fine anyway for half the price

Gway sells some very reasonably priced C bearings.

Regular steel ones 4 for $10 and hybrid ceramic ones 2 for $10. Both great prices and they’ve already been deshielded for maintenance. I’ve no experience with the quality of them but if I were looking for some I’d probably get some of those.

I hear ya. Cleaning bearings eats up a lot of time. I just throw them away and buy new ones. It only takes a week to order and recieve a new bearing but cleaning a bearing could take something like a fraction of that time. It’s not worth it.

Quite agree on this, to be honest I tried one million times to clean the bearings but they never come back to the “original” status, they get locked or responsive again after a little bit, in 10 years of yoyoing I never had a bearing that goes back to work perfectly after get clean, tried with thousand different methods and thousand different ways, at the end I just let it go and change bearing if it get broken, which annoy me a bit cause is both money/waste as bearing I do not thing are recycle friendly.

Started to buy high quality stuff I noticed that the bearings are so much more smooth and do not get responsive, I have all my DS for around an year and I never clean them and them never get responsive, I have 6 of them on the yoyos that I use the most and if I change the yoyo in my “daily bag” I just change the bearing to a DS and never had issues with them, same with the Sochi ones (which are half the price).

It happened to have yoyos with a bearing basically broken from the day I receive them, it can happen I guess, tried to clean them but never get them to work

I have been using bearings from GWAY for some time now, and I can confirm that they are of very good quality for the price. I have both regular versions C and D, as well as ceramic ones.

Quiet sound, good responsiveness when playing, very rarely needs to be cleaned. I clean ceramic bearing with air a couple of times and that was it.

OK! You both need to start sending me your “dead” DS bearings!! Haha. Overnight in Acetone does the trick. Sometimes I’ll take the bearing out, spin it out and then back in the Acetone. That second cycle usually does the trick. Half a pin drop of lube and you’re off to the races.

As I was writing in the post with my messed up English, I never had issues with DS bearing is all the rest I have issues with (mostly usually the ones that come with the yoyos)

Usually I let them stay in the acetone and I use a air spray can to remove it and I make them spin super fast, they last couple of days and then they get responsive again, tried the lube but even with a small pin drop it makes the bearing responsive and drive me insane while I play, I used to have the yoyofactory lube the one for unresponsive.

This is why I also started to buy the DS, in this way I do not need to care about bearings.

P.s.= I am awful at maintenance

Thanks for the helpful advice.

Would them being deshielded make them more prone to getting dirty?

You probably just need to clean your bearing seats.

I use One Drop 10 ball. I also like konkave.
Ceramic =Good =$$$$

Maybe in theory but i haven’t noticed it in practise.

I usually run bearings as they are from the factory until they act up. Then I ditch the shields, clean them and run them dry.

The only time I’ve had bearings go responsive is in that first phase when they have factory lube. Sometimes they only last a few hours.

Once they are dry, they generally never give me a problem again.

Humidity, dust etc, are a factor, so YMMV.

It’s very dry here, but also very dusty. Dust doesn’t seem to be an issue, unless that is why the lubed bearings go bad.

Depends on your environment. If you have let’s say 4 cats and a family member that uses baby powder like it’s going out of style then you might end up with stuff in your bearing. Also depends how often you change your string. Folks that run string longer get more junk in their bearing from the frays off the string

I just have one question. Did u get that snack from the website that teaches Yoyo tricks? Let’s just call them botricks .com anyway I know that’s the place where everyone’s getting their snacks it’s where I got mine. Anyway the reason I ask is because when I got mine it didn’t come with a stock bearing they sent it with one of their vip bearings, which in my opinion are second to none. Those are bearings are tied for 1st with ds for me. So I would definitely just try cleaning the bearing, and wiping down the bearing seat as well. But if ur dead serious on just getting a new one I’ll take that one off ur hands. ■■■■ I’ll even send u a brand new gold concave bearing for it

For myself, I highlight 3 good bearings. DS Bearing (Dry Play) is known for its reliability and resistance to stains thanks to its Dry Play technology. It is designed to minimize friction and increase bearing life.
Buddha Whipple Bearing is made using high quality materials and has a durable design that makes it less prone to contamination and easy to rotate.
And of course YoYoFactory Center Trac Bearing. With a center string groove, this bearing allows for more stable rotation and is easy to clean when needed
