Motif vs Hash

Hello! I have been looking at these 2 yoyos a lot lately. I like both yoyos a lot but the Motif is 20$ more expensive. Can anyone who has these 2 yoyos summarize how it plays. I also would like to know the main differences between the 2. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I only briefly tried a Motif once so I can’t really comment on that. I did own a Hash for several months though. It was pretty good yoyo, definitely leaned pretty hard into the old-school play aesthetic. Kind of reminded me of a metal Freehand vibes with the hollow capped feel, though obviously all the other specs were quite different. Spin time and stability were both decent, not super competitive though since it’s obviously not a competition yoyo. Overall play-feel I would describe as slightly hollow and very laid back. It didn’t really like being pushed fast at all or sudden momentum changes, it did much better with being played smooth and slow. The slightly high wall made binds super snappy and crisp and great for regens. Profile was comfortable and the construction was high quality. Overall, good yo, I just wasn’t playing it as much as some others in my collection so I ended up passing it along.

My current throws are the Miracle and the Skill Addicts Bimetal so I would like a more laid back (just as you said) yoyo. My personal style would be more of a flow/tech style. Also, could you just briefly describe how the Motif plays in your experience (What you have felt about it even if it’s a short amount of time)? Thank you again for sharing your opinions!

I liked the Motif, but I can’t say anything more than that because I only tried it for about 5 minutes around a year and a half ago, sorry.

Oh. Ok

Do you think I should buy the Hash? I really like Tetsuto’s playstyle. I am also a fan of tech and flow style elements.

I can’t speak on the Motif unfortunately, but I really love the Hash.
It’s a really well designed throw. Not undersize but slightly smaller so it’s good for intricate stuff, and the profile is really nice. I’m not usually a fan of V-shape designs, but it’s pretty rounded and very comfortable, almost gives off semi organic vibes in the hand feel because it’s so nice feeling. The V-shape also really helps with string stacking and catches. Response is tight and reliable, great casual play weighty feel to it, but not too heavy that it feels held back. Very stable. The issue I have with a lot of capped throws is that they’re very rim weighted, to the point where if they start tilting, they just want to keep powering through it and going where they want to go, but this keeps on plane very well and is still able to be corrected when needed. Grind finish is also fantastic.
All in all, I would recommend it for certain for what it’s worth.

If it looks like a yoyo you think you would like, and the descriptions I and others have given it sound appealing to you, then go for it. Nowadays there are no "bad’ yoyos, just ones that fit your particular playstyle preferences more than others. It sounds like you’re pretty new, so it may take you a while to find what types of play/yoyos you particularly like. For the Hash in particular I might reccomend trying to find a used one the BST, since it is a little expensive IMO.

I have both, they are both among my favorite yoyos. They have a similar playfeel in many respects - the Hash is supposed to be modelled on the Motif - but they are distinctive. The Motif feels heavier in play - I don’t think it’s that much heavier, but it feels much more solid. The Hash is lighter, nimbler, and also easier to bump off course. Both are highly maneuverable and delightful, but the Hash is definitely one step further on the quick/light/agile side. The Motif doesn’t feel bad heavy in any way, just one step more solid/stable. I really love both.
