So I decided to finally start doing reviews for all the throw related stuff I consume and enjoy so much! I will be doing reviews for my throws, string and everything in between! I don’t think I’ll go to in depth which is why I put “mini reviews” and my reviews will be more like overviews where I’ll go over the product and what I like about it and what it’s strengths are. The reason for this is simple, I’m a natural optimist in life, this applies to the different things in life that bring me joy. I’ll give an example, I’m also a huge movie buff!! Like major cinephile! I have a degree in film. I had a whole IG page dedicated to film reviews, however I realized after a while that most of my reviews were generally positive, even for the films that most of my peers didn’t like. And after reading their reviews I’d realize their points are valid and they were pointing out real flaws in the Same films that I hadn’t considered. It’s not that I completely missed them, it’s just that the way my mind is programmed, I choose to pay attention to what I feel makes the film good rather than look for the faults. Now sometimes there are faults that are so glaring you can’t miss them. So I’m not completely oblivious to to them, but after trying to rethink my approach and look at film more critical I realized that I started not enjoying the films as much anymore. I didn’t like that. I’d rather enjoy the films the way I was before and accept the fact that maybe being a movie critic wasn’t for me. The reason I give that background info is because my reviews for Yoyo, string and everything in between will not be in the same format that your used too. There are plenty of other reviewers out there with way more skills then me who have good formats with extensive criteria by which they review Yoyo, holding them all to a rigorous standardized test of sorts to measure their strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes there’s a final grade involved in the end…. My reviews won’t be like that. The reason? Well because when I buy a new Yoyo, or anything related, that’s not what I do in real life. That’s not the way I judge my yo-yos or decided if I like them or not. So I don’t want to start doing that now. I asked myself, well okay what do I look for in a Yoyo, and how do I decide if I like it or not? The answer is simple, and though there are various things I can like about any given Yoyo and I will highlight those things, the main quality I look for in a Yoyo and determine it’s merit, is this….is it fun? I don’t buy yo-yos to judge them based on a set of criteria, I buy them because throwing is fun for me. And I love throwing yo-yos that are fun. That’s it. And spoiler alert, I love most of the yo-yos I buy. And that’s how it should be isn’t it? I buy yo-yos based on how fun I think they’re gna be. So I consider it to be a success when the Yoyo fulfills that goal. So yes there will be many other qualities both good and bad that I will highlight, but those will vary with every yo-yo. I won’t have a set in stone criteria that I’ll use to judge them all. Because all yo-yos aren’t trying to do the same thing. So it wouldn’t be fair to judge them based on the same thing. Anyway, sorry for the long preface but I just wanted to give insight and a preview of what to expect from my reviews before hand. I think I’m going to do both written and video reviews. With tomorrow being the first one. I think I’m gna post pictures of my current collection of yo-yos and strings and I will also take requests, if you see a Yoyo or string that I have and you’d like a review for, lmk and I’ll prioritize that! It’s late right now so I might not get the pics posted til later. That’s all for now! I’ll proof read this later when I wake up so forgive any mistakes made at this point. Cheers!
P.s I’m not super skilled like a lot of others! Though I’ve been throwing on and off for half of my life, the longest I’ve ever thrown consistently was a year before taking a long break, so my skills never really had a chance to truly progress. Until recently, I’ve been throwing for 2 full years consistently now which is the longest for me, but bear in mind that means 30 min a day if I’m lucky, I have a family and just had my first daughter. So at this point I consider myself an intermediate beginner in terms of skill set. But I’m hoping these reviews will actually be a good way to track my progress and grow my skills!
