Micro Bullet "Yo-Yo® Top" - Anyone try one of these?

This past weekend, I made a quick visit to TRU just to browse what yo-yos they were carrying. I was also debating buying another FH2 (2010). After grabbing my FH, I noticed this cute little yo sitting on the bottom of the shelf, known as a Micro Bullet. I couldn’t resist, ended up getting both the FH2 and the MB. Immediately (in the package) it reminded me of my old keychain Imperial I had when I was younger. After closer looking I realized it was wing-shaped much like the keychain FH2 (which I have been wanting to grab). The package only says “Precision Balance” and “Super Sleeping Spins” so I was not expecting a lot, only perhaps rim weight to contribute to the two. They come in Clear/Red, Red/White, or Purple/Yellow (Body color/Cap color). Not sure when they came out, saw topics from other sites from 2007. As far as the “Yo-yo®” label, I’ve read elsewhere that Yo-yo is is a registered trademark in Canada to this day, the origins of this toy company, Papa’s Toys. They cost $6.

Here’s a glance at the one I picked up, sorry didn’t get any shots of the packaging:

After opening the package, I realized this thing has somewhat recessed friction stickers and a tiny bearing. Next stop, I tried it out. Super responsive, the first throw was kind of a mess.

After 3 throws, I finally got it to sleep…first a few seconds, and finally got a 30-second sleeper out of this. The cotton string provided however is way too thick for this, so when I got home I made my own (type 4). The yo’s overall size is about the size of my old Imperial, and is about the size of a 50¢ coin. I think the weight is about 40g. but feels quite weighty for it’s size. Here’s a look at it compared to some of my other easily recognizable yo’s (as in you probably know the sizes on these).

How it plays (for me anyway): First off, I’m at an intermediate level of play, venturing into advanced (know a few advanced tricks), and I found that the most complex trick(s) I could land are Mach 5, Split the Atom (Can do this consistantly now), and an occasional Double or Nothing. I’ve removed 1 pad as it was already starting to lift, and was itching for a wider gap. I think I may mess with my string and see if I can make something thinner without it getting swallowed up in the bearing seat.

I really don’t have anything to compare this to other than my old fixed axle mini Imperial which feels about the same but with much longer sleeping time. The size/weight feels about right however.

So now that you have seen this or maybe if you have seen this before have you guys played with this one? What are your thoughts? I’m sure your local TRU store carries these, I’d recommend trying one out, fun to mess with, can take anywhere.

that would be a good yoyo to beefcake. the pads are so big and the bearings are so small. it would work decently, just need a larger axle

PaPa toys in Canada are the ones who own the trademark “Yo-Yo” in Canada. Thanks to them, no other “Return Top” maker in Canada can use the name yoyo
