I want the modified/slimline one as well, think it’s the Black Canon.

according to mark’s IG they just started shipping so you might be able to pick one up on the BST soon if someone who pre-ordered gets it and decides they don’t like it (or maybe mark made extras for sale, who knows)

I was excited for this until I saw 6061 and $120. I know … I know… but still.

$120 is about what I expected. The FRS Black Canon dropped at $100+ for a very niche design (also 6061). (Edit: the solids may have been ~$90, but a relatively high price by any standard.)

Price was a factor for me. Not knocking it though, the seller of a product has the right to do whatever they need to do, and this could end up being one heck of a yoyo. I’d have needed to so those OG project lines in the catch zone to bite.

This and the white cerakote Kamu’s dropping within days of each other is financial pain…

I am however a sucker and bought the P2 and will without hesitation cop the Kamu as well :smiling_face_with_tear:

I am so looking forward to the new finish, white whatever it’s called. I don’t even know what it means.

Even though Mark is a sponsored player, I’d imagine he’s still paying OD some hefty wholesale prices to get these made to sell in his own store/under his own branding. He might be getting a better deal than Static or A-RT, but I doubt by much.

It can be frustrating as a consumer because we all know this yo-yo would retail for ~$70 if it was direct from OD, but I can’t fault Mark for his pricing structure when other brands that work with OD need to do the same thing to make any profit.

(Sudos are cheaper but we barely break even/lose money on those things lol)

Anyone have any thoughts on the MP2? How would you compare it to the MCMO or other ODs?

If you’ve played a Rebirth, you probably hate it or love it. If you hate it, it’s likely because you may think it feels too heavy - the Project feels pretty floaty by today’s standards.

I still think the Rebirth is an underrated, all around best performer from OD - it has a lot of Japanese Comp weight distro going on because of who it was designed for. Due to this, I think it’s a weird concept of being a modern power house packed into a Project shape. As a result, it lost the “feel” of the Project in play which could be the reason it “missed the mark” to some.

The MP2 shaves off some of that weight from the Rebirth through an IRG undercut. The tweaked weight distribution simply feels closer to something related to a Project in play. It’s not a floaty yoyo like the MC, but it’s not a Rim weighted monster like the Rebirth. It literally sits right in between the two, just like it’s size and shape. It has plenty of power/spin time/stability that’s on par or better than the MC and it loses the “rock” feeling the Rebirth has, and gets a more “floaty” feel like the Original Project feels.

So for me, the Rebirth is the “performance” child of the Project. The MP2 is the “feel” child of the Project. Though you lose the Projection grooves in the MP2, that’s kind of a personal preference. This is not to say the MP2 lacks performance, it’s more so that the Rebirth really excels in this category which is why it feels “heavy” to some. This is more balanced, some could say more “refined” than the brute force of the Rebirth.

If you want a full sized Project, this is probably the closest you’ll ever get.

I think it’s a better throw with a Concave in. I also prefer it with UL’s so far.

I’ve never been the hugest fan of the MMC or MCMO (:scream: i know), but I absolutely love the MP2. I agree with the above post about the comparison to the rebirth, it’s a more floaty version. MP2 definitely plays slow, if you like slower more chill yoyos, it’s a great one for sure.

I’m curious about people opinions on the Black Canon.

Best in its class.

I think it is much more capable than the specs suggest as far as spin time and catchability.
