How dare people talk about something as truly evil as alcohol around here, lets talk about something far more acceptable and harmless like Christianity.
lol, unlike alcohol religion talk is actually against forum rule
That thread baffled me to be honest but no point turning a bit of fun into resentment
With the patterns on some of the bead spreads these days, I thought beer was a safe haven for background on mail day pics.
Evidently not.
Actually religion is banned based on forum rules.
It is curious to see how the world is different in every corner and how things considered normal in one place can be a paradox in another and in most cases, everything has a cultural source derived from past problems or experiences.
I give an example above all, for us Italians, but more generally I think I can say Europeans, it is paradoxical and chilling to see how, for example, in the USA, a minor is not allowed to buy alcoholic beverages even with low title or to show them in public places like roads or stations (this also applies to adults I think) but, in many states, he can enter a weapons shop and buy a firearm.
This for us is pure absolute madness, for an American I imagine instead normalcy and madness are our rules in this regard which are diametrically opposed.
I went to France the year before I graduated high school, I was 17 at the time. I remember a classmate, 16, who was nervous about getting drinks at a restaurant because he thought he would get ‘carded’. I had a good laugh at that.
Honestly, American drinking laws don’t make much sense. I’d say the vast majority of kids will try alcohol in college well before their 21st birthday; I’d imagine partially due to the ‘illegalness’ of it (how exciting!)
Stats tend to show that lowering the age of legal alcohol consumption tends to lower instances of young people abusing it, perhaps due to removing the excitement of doing something you’re not supposed to be doing.
No doubt our alcohol laws are influenced by the prohibition laws of the previous century, but maybe it’s time to revisit them.
I think you may be onto something. Several years ago, when I was well beyond the legal drinking age, I went to Stockholm, Sweden for work. On my first day there, my company’s head of customer support for the Nordic countries took me to a cafeteria for lunch. On the walk there, he told me “we can drink light beer at lunchtime.” I very politely replied that I prefer regular beer to light beer, so I would stick to sparkling water (which they had on tap at my company’s location). He laughed and told me that he wasn’t talking about “American light beer”, but, the lower alcohol beer that teenagers could buy. Just a different culture. The same guy also took me to a casino in Stockholm. I was still jet lagged and currency conversion challenged, and was sitting shell shocked after losing a few hundred Kronor. He saw me and, when I told him my tale of woe, he bust out laughing and reminded me that I had lost about $20 over a few hours in the casino.
Yes and no.
what often makes the difference is not the culture, but the regulated restraints and above all the seriousness of the sanctions in breaking them.
Your Swedish colleague did not tell you that the Danish people in Copenhagen literally hated the Swedes from Malmo who left every Saturday evening, taking the ferry, to go and get drunk in Denmark, where free alcohol consumption was allowed.
When the bridge was built, partly submarine that connects the two countries and the two cities, the Danes breathed a sigh of relief, since now if the Swedes want to go to Copenhagen they have to do it by car and when they return, driving, in Malmo they have their law enforcement officers waiting for them and checking them.
Not really craft beer but I am told this is a safe haven for people like me
I whipped this up just now
I don’t know what that is, but I don’t care. I want one.
I’ll take one of each!
That a coffee stout or something? Whatever it is, looks great.
It’s an Espresso Martini.
You take a double shot of espresso, double shot of vodka, double shot of Khalua, single shot of creme de cacao (so basically all the alcohol lol) and a dash of vanilla essence and shake the F out of it in a boston shaker.
It’s my favourite cocktail for a chill out vibe
That was my other guess.
Think it’s gonna be another Ti-Lagavulin night for me.
i dont kno if this counts, but i eat Kraft cheese
now, drink the cheese XD
Is that an espresso martini? If so, be happy there is an ocean separating us, or, you would have a caffeinated guest for happy hour
It is an espresso martini. I am somewhat confident that I make the best ones
Don’t compare mine to those you have previously tried
