Let’s talk 3D printing

That’s the same with one of the printers I have. Voxelab Aquilla x2 (ender 3 v2 clone). It’s heavily upgraded well beyond what I paid for it. Switched it to MicroSwiss NG direct drive, M2 hardened steel nozzle, redid all the fans, added CR touch, carbon fiber build plate, hard bed mounts, new heater core and thermistor, bla bla bla. It prints like a dream, but I never use it because my larger printer gets all the action now days.

The biggest downside now is if I try to sell or trade it, nobody will want it. I don’t even think I could give it away. haha. Resale value on modded machines other than Vorons seems to lose their value so quickly especially if it’s not core xy that’s capable of ripping 1324400 mms folks don’t want them anymore. It’s a bummer because they are still great machines capable of printing so much.

It’s funny folks will try to delist Enders that are heavily upgraded and list mods like it helps the value but really it doesn’t. Can’t even give away a stock ender 3 let alone one with a modded hotend and rails

I think you’ve got Throw-Yo Rope beat there!

Make your own today if you do not value your fingers. 169 mm imperial frisbee yoyo. Skate bearing, giant brake pads, m5 hardware.

I do feel it can be beneficial to list the upgrades if they are substantial or when it’s a custom high quality part like MicroSwiss or official Bondtech since there’s lot’s of cheap junk upgrades out there. I don’t feel 3D printed upgrades that anyone can download really count in the value but something like the aforementioned extruders for example, totally can be factored into the overall value since they are premium components. There is a diminished return but it can certainly help a little bit.

I recently sold Wanhao Duplicator i3 (released in 2015) for a surprising amount. That thing was old school compared to even the ender style printers but it still printed like a dream. I had upgraded it a fair bit and added a 32-bit board to it and the buyer felt it was worth it. So I guess it just depends on who’s interested.

Doubles as a snack tray too!

Have you tried it as a Frisbee yet? Wonder how it flies.

I have not tested it’s actual frisbeeability yet. I’ll have to test that tomorrow! Probably with just one half and not assembled lol.

You can always repurpose your old 3d printer instead of selling it lol. I have my first printer in my garage and some day if I have the free time want to turn it into something insane like an automated panini press.

I would be very afraid of a frisbee made of PLA flying at me

For sure! I thought about turning this aquila into a rook or doing the E3NG (core xy ender mod) but I just have too many dang printers and sometimes you just gotta reduce inventory haha.

I understand. I have 3 fully operational. One stashed in the garage. And another I promised to give away when I bought the Core One… but haven’t yet.

Maybe I can print a TPU version… or polypropylene. Polypropylene feels almost like a sturdy foam when printed.

I would be much more willing to be on the receiving end of one of those flying discs.

Mid in a new copper and orange colorway, along with a Mid-L, and Mid-XL. The XL is slightly larger diameter than the UPDN Orange, and despite being the heaviest at slightly over 70g, it feels like the lightest. Funny the way scale can trick your brain.

I love that you call them the “Mid”, it’s so dang humble because I am positive they are peak performance. I honestly haven’t tried a bad yoyo from the ones I have of yours.

I think Dylan made a video trying to print a disc golf frisbee a long time ago.
