Let’s talk 3D printing

Makes me think of Fakies:

That’s cool! I was inspired by the RCS sk8r but wanted to make a silly giant longboard wheel version with an actual skate bearing. I am going to print some 2.5x jumbo brake pads for it that I will reuse in the gigantic yoyo.

Set of 3D-printed End models made from PLA and steel/copper filled HTPLA. The heaviest one comes in at 66.7g and plays similarly to the original End, though with a noticeably more rim-weighted feel which I very much like. I was genuinely impressed by how stable these are in play, they really capture the shape and spirit of the RSO End exceptionally well. I’ll share more detailed impressions after spending more time with them, but initial results are very promising. Huge thanks to @MinerJ for not only doing me a favor by printing these but also going the extra mile to ensure they look fantastic.

Weight breakdown:

  • Black/Steel: 60.0g

  • Gray/Steel: 61.6g

  • Clear/Steel: 62.1g

  • Gray/Copper: 65.6g

  • Black/Copper: 66.7g

This is such a horrible yoyo. I love it. :joy: I don’t think it’ll make the cut to make more copies though.

Modeled to match the size of my longboard wheels from my retired longboard since I can’t skate anymore.

Bones Red skate bearing

70 mm diameter

99 mm wide

2.5 mm gap

97 grams

2.45x sized brake pads

Printed in polypropylene or it would be even heavier.

I did manage to stall it but it plays like… trying to Yoyo with giant skate wheels, which is to say terrible.

Andy you can just go ahead and send me that file and I’ll be printing a big dumb yoyo this weekend

I can post the file up… but in polypropylene which is very light compared to PLA it still weighs 227 grams :joy: my finger hurts.

it also uses these giant printed TPU brake pads as response and a skate bearing.

I’m working on an imperial version that should be lighter. If you do want the file though knowing all that lemme know.

I really want to find someone with an orange storm giga to make an even bigger version😂

Updn looks like it’s printing.

@Bergy what are you cooking up? Looks like counterweights from here.

It’s not an orange storm but I have a heavily modified Kobra Max that has a 400 x 400 x 450 volume.

So if you really need bigger….

I’m trying to work out how to wind some macrame rope into a really thick yoyo string but failing heartily.

Just made an xxxl string, with a cotton fat and bulk something or other for scale

Ooh nice, I’m probably gonna need to twist something like that for a 400 mm :joy:

I’ll keep that in mind, I have a few projects in the works before I can let the squirrels in my brain to start running the show. That being said if you’re working on one and need a co-conspirator let me know. I’m always here for good bad ideas😂

This is one of the downsides of my elegoo Centauri carbon is the build sizes is very much in line with smaller bed slingers I already had. I get it’s a cost effective machine but super tempted to get something with a big build plate for big dumb project ideas. Only issue is big build space machines often don’t have all the nice bells and whistles or are expensive if they do

Yes I’ve spent far more money on my Kobra Max making it better than what the actual printer cost.

I removed the glass bed and installed a magnet and flexible plate.

Replaced the fans.

Most expensively though replaced the Bowden extruder with a direct drive bondtech lgx and replaced the old v5 hotend with a Mosquito hotend.

It now rips away at big prints but that was a lot of work.
