The short: if you have an undamaged A grade Yoyofactory Avant Garde 2, I’ll pay you way too much for it. Or trade too much for it.
Other info:
I’ve been collecting undercuts for a decade. My collection isn’t huge, but I’m trying to assemble a history of this design. My small pocket of the yo-yo world.
I thought I was done. But it dawned on me, the Avant Garde 2 I have is heavily modified, and in the interest of preserving yo-yo history, I’d like to have a stock one. It’s a very influential H shape design.
if you’ve got one, I’ll give you more than it’s worth in trades or cash. But it’s gotta be A grade, and it’s gotta be mint. I know that’s specific, but I’m bringing the goods.
This is one of my favorites, majorly underrated. I’ve been buying them every time I see a color I don’t have that’s mint. Most of mine are b grades though lol.
You think you’re overpaying now, but once one sells for a zillion dollars they’ll all cost at least that much in the future. So, really it’s a great deal?
Buyers don’t decide the price, sellers do. If most buyers are unwilling to pay a million bucks, then sellers just wait until they find the right person.
Not really. Buyers do influence the price. If I tried to sell an aqua shutter for 800$ there is no “I just wait till the correct buyer shows up“. There are other sellers who would sell it for 40 bucks.
In this case if we assume there is 1 single buyer who wishes to pay a lot for this yoyo that just means 1 sale at that price. Its not a pattern unless a lot of other buyers decide they want this that bad as well.
I honestly can’t see any reason your logic has any application in relation to Nightshadows quest.
He is willing to pay over the retail price of a yo-yo, to possibly inspire someone to decide they can live without theirs and would rather have the money.
His mission in procuring said yo-yo, has absolutely nothing to do with market values or potential values of anything that may be for sale in most instances
I am not saying that your statements I quoted are incorrect. I am not saying that they do not sound reasonable.
But what I am saying is that you’re basically not telling him anything he doesn’t already know. What you are suggesting to him are things that he doesn’t care about.
In this particular instance, Robin wants to get a yo-yo that has eluded him for some time. If 10 people just happen to be on this forum… And all 10 of those people have the yo-yo he is looking for. But none of those 10 people wants to sell or trade the yo-yo because they kinda like it themselves.
So… Since money talks, Robin is reaching out and suggesting to anybody that may have one, that he wants their yo-yo more than they do.
If he succeeds… He has less money and they have one less yo-yo.
They can buy something else with the money… And he can move on to his next mission.
Yep pretty much. I was just trying to make a joke about how ‘overpaying’ will retrospectively sound backwards in light of how people willingly spending absurd amounts on yoyos is what drives sellers to ask higher prices.
