LEGO Counterweight

I wanted to start experimenting with 5A and didn’t want to spend the money on a counterweight, so I started looking for things around the house to make my own. I have a ton of LEGO, so I thought I would see if I could piece one together.

This was made with the following parts:

  • 2x 60208 - Wheel 31mm D x 15mm, Technic
  • 2x 98585 - Technic axle connector block, round with 2 pin holes and 3 axle holes
  • 4x 3673 - Technic pin
  • 1x 87083 - Technic, axle 4L with stop

Build Directions:

The weight clocks in at 11 grams. I like that I can easily put the weight on or take it off to swap back and forth between 5A on the same string. I think it would be easy to reduce weight by swapping the guts for smaller parts. I like that it has a seam all around like Duncan Candy Dice to let the string easily move around.

Anyone else make any fun counterweights out of LEGO?

What a neat idea! And no need for a drill (e.g. drilling dice).

This is a great idea! I think the only thing I wouldn’t like is the sharp edges. Are there any rubber Lego?

Yeah, I don’t have a great work space so I was eager to make something without drilling.

I don’t find the edges to be an issue. They’re rounded rather than pointy. LEGO does make rubber tires…

That’s awesome. Time to dig into my bucket of bricks to see what I can find!
