I heard Aaron called dibs on 69 ![]()
At Designâs take on the first Peak. More or less same dimensions but with the schmoove groove.
At least we can have SIX SEVEN.
Legacy Peak notwithstanding, I have gotten the impression from past comments on the Peak that Steve felt that it was something that wasnât worth revisiting in its original form. (Just my impression, happy to learn otherwise.) Maybe MoNo wasnât enough of a deviation from a design that he wasnât that interested in anyway?
IIRC I asked if anyone had gotten the chance to compare one to a Peak, he replied asking what it is, I sent a link to its page, and he replied âohhh this guyâ.
Anyways not a fan was probably way too harsh of a wording on my part, Iâm glad to see them working together and I think the collab will be cool.
Maybe there wasnât enough collaboration or communication with CLYW.
When I was talking to Steve about the collab at Nats, that was kinda the jist of what he was saying⌠like âHey, I see what youâre doing⌠dontcha think it would be better if we just collaborated insteadâ lol
And it ended up resulting in something pretty sick, which is cool
FWIW, from At Design Labâs design notes:
Lastly, we have been developing MoNo for over half a year. When I play the CLYW peak and YoYoJam Hitman after work, it reminded me that MoNo is absolutely no match for these masterpiece. If you like MoNo, please look for these yoyo and play it. Itâs no wonder that some people donât know, let alone havenât played a historic masterpiece for about more than 25 years since the earliest yo-yo boom. However, these are masterpieces that must not be forgotten, and are yo-yos that every player should remember forever. We hope that by developing a new yo-yo using the essence of a masterpiece from the past, it will be an opportunity for everyone to remember that time and to know the existence of that masterpiece. Above all, if the MoNo series become masterpiece for you in 10 and 20 years, there will be no more happiness. Finally, once again, in honor of the masterpieces of the past.
Not sure that anyoneâs toes were being stepped on, but thatâs just IMO.
Yeah, thatâs pretty much the whole thing. I saw what he was doing and understood the exercise of it but didnât understand why it wasnât a more collaborative project. So I approached him about actually collaborating and the result is, if I do say so myself, pretty dang sweet. A few folks got to throw it at US Nats and letâs just say it scratches an itch that a lot of people seem to have for something from our past. ![]()
It was a genuine pleasure collaborating with AT Design Lab and some of the conversations weâve had have definitely given me greater insight into how Caribou is historically viewed by people and what aspects of our design seem to resonate through the years. A great collab elevates both partners and this one definitely does that, IMO.
We started the Legacy Peak project in Eugene while I was there for the Summit 2. It was hard to keep that one quiet ha ha
It wasnât a matter of squeezing in production at the last minute, it was a matter of One Drop is hella busy and once the Summit 2 blew up they were even busier so finding a pocket to make this happen went from âtrickyâ to âI am so sorry Shawnâ.
To clarify, you are correct. I really didnât have any interest in just re-running the Peak. It felt like a cash grab and there wasnât a point to it.
Once I realized that Chris had the original CAD and that it had never been run, THAT interested me specifically because it was part of our story that was essentially omitted from the public. Reading and re-reading the Peak History Thread and realizing that no one had ever thrown the Peak as Chris originally designed it seems kind of insane to me, and that was something worth revisiting and bringing to life.
There are some yoyos in our history that Iâm re-running because I think they hold up. The Bonfire is a great example of this. Itâs still a great all-arounder and if you donât agree then you are wrong ha ha. But the Peak held such a special and specific place that as I saidâŚre-running it just to do it felt cheap and weird.
Iâm really glad the Legacy Peak came to be, because I feel like it fills a really specific need that that alot of people have for the early days of Caribou and because to me it feels like finding the missing puzzle piece between the couch cushions and finally snapping it into place. I cannot overstate how whole this makes the story of the Peak feel to me.
This should be added to the non-existent âHistory of the Legacy Peakâ thread.
Also, you know what other classic CLYW jojo holds up? âŚ.
The Wooly Marmot!
Best of luck to all, may your internet be fast and your fingers be faster!
Was anybody else under the impression that âlimited to 100 pieces worldwideâ meant there wouldnât be more produced? Iâm happy more folks get one of these but i know some people paid up for second hand Peaks after Nats and knowing there are more being produced makes them a little less rare.
100 of the 28 Stories is still going to be true though.
50 more of another colorway are coming at Worlds/online, then maybe some different ones later.
I truly believe this is one of those CLYW is âdamned if they do, damned if they donâtâ situations. People got annoyed when they didnât run âenough,â now people are annoyed when they run more. ![]()
Maybe Iâm biased cause I got one, but Iâm still stoked these were run AT ALL
We discussed it a bit here when these were first announced.
yeah steve alluded to this here specifically, then later confirmed a second run was going to happen at nationals and again later online:
Gaaaahhh!!! I hope I can manage to snag one! #69 youâre mine!!! lol!!
Curious to know who will be getting the 67 serial number ![]()
