I didn’t try for one. May be the minority here but I’m more interested in the p3ak as it certainly should be a better playing yoyo. Given all the frustration so many had over that initial announcement I’m sure none of the haters will be trying to get that one also so it should be easy to land one ![]()
Someone used a one wish willow in the P3ak thread I swear.
Whether or not bots are specifically involved, it’s still unfair to prioritise people with the fastest connection to the servers (most of Asia has very slow connection to US networks, for instance), and people who can pass the payment screen the fastest. If you have to manually enter your address from memory and you’re tired from staying up all night, then you’ll wish you had just set up a bot.
Are you sure you know what you’re talking about?
These screenshots are from The Summit Documentary. As you can see, a cycle to produce one half takes about 7 minutes. Add another 3 minutes to machine the bearing/responsive seat… 10 minutes.
What you see in the right of the immage is an automatic bar loader. So, once you’ve set up the machine, made the first test pieces, and ensured that all the tools the machine will use have good cut angles, you start production. If you want, you can come back after 20 hours, which is 1200 minutes, and you’ll find 172 halves completed… 86 complete yo-yos that only need to be machined for the bearing/responsive seat. So, what exactly should they do for six months??? ![]()
G2 does it a lot on their discord. I haven’t heard any complaints there
Every scenario is unfair to someone, and still not inherently nefarious.
They want it to be ‘special’.
They see ‘special’ as ‘very limited in quantity’.
I’d say that’s not an unusual viewpoint, but it makes the product very inaccessible, especially when combined with the high price. That said, you could just buy another similar yoyo. You have a lot of choice, and at a better price too. If you want this specific one, then it must mean something to you—to be valuable to you. Would you be upset that they missed you release of more were always coming down the pipe in a couple of months?
In other words, if nobody misses out, then nobody feels ‘special’. When everyone’s super, nobody will be…
I don’t think anybody cares about feeling special, they just want a Peak. lol.
This release reminds me a lot of Nike. It’s pretty common for them to release the very limited and sought after shoes alongside a less cool and higher volume release of the same model, like a Travis Scott Jordan 1 drop in close proximity to a more boring colour as a consolation (Legacy Peak and P3ak in this case).
It’s pretty obvious that people do care about exclusivity, we probably wouldn’t even care about the Peak so much if the originals weren’t exclusive in the first place.
I mean I can only truly speak for myself and personally, that is not the case. I grew up throwing a Peak in the early 2010s and simply refuse to pay the inflated prices regardless of how much I want one back. I almost exclusively throw yoyos made prior to like 2014 because I prefer the feel, so it has nothing to do with exclusivity for me.
As for others, I have no clue.
Yeah I just wanna know what a peak feels like lol, but at this point I kinda don’t care.
I’ll still likely snag a p3ak if they aren’t vaporized upon drop, or hold out for a cool lookin splash one if they are solids
But I’ll also have 2 more kids by then so I’ll probably have skip all together tbh
Everyone is so salty. Congrats to CLYW for continuing to make outrageously sought after throws two decades in a row. Thank you to giving the community something to be hyped about. I’m glad you only made a limited number, keeps it special ![]()
PS: I did not get one and am happy for everyone that snagged one!
anything past 2014-15 is not it lol i get you
I’m just saying, it’s a well known aspect of human psychology and it’s something marketing departments are aware of and exploit.
If you want a player definitely check out the ILYY Lynx, I’ve mentioned it a few times in Peak threads because it’s so good.
It’s heavily Peak inspired and does a good job capturing the classic and balanced floaty feel while enhancing performance. It’s also probably the best all around yoyo for grinds I’ve ever played which is fitting given the Peak was inspired by the Hitman. Scored mine for $80 a while ago.
Congrats to CLYW for continuing to make outrageously sought after throws two decades in a row.
It’s the same sought after yoyo…
I used to own one a very long time ago along with an ILYY Lio and Wasabi. ILYY used to make some amazing throws…and nothing will ever beat their candy blast even if it did chew up strings. Best finish I’ve ever felt on a yoyo and it’s not close.
This one is FPM made and soda blasted, C bearing and slightly lightened compared to the originals.
People wanted the thing, they didn’t get the thing, I’m not surprised.
I for sure hesitate to call it a marketing stunt tho, I don’t think there is any malicious manipulation of the hype around it.
We must remember these are just a handful of people working together to bring something cool to a niche community
By aesthetic effect you mean, because for grinds it is among the worst finishes I have ever tried (I have a candy blasted Wasabi 2009 ) and the fact that it wears out the strings is empirical proof of this… the finish of a Hatrick is something frighteningly efficient for grinds, not candy blasted!
Yeah I was going to say, the new soda blast finish the have is much much better for performance than the candy stuff, albeit with a bit less soul.
