Learning on a higher end yoyo?

@Yoyomikie – I’ll definitely be sure to check those out. Thanks for the suggestion

@ Everyone else – Regarding cleaning bearings, doesn’t the yoyo itself form a sort of seal for the bearing when the bearing is in the yoyo? If so, then how would dust, dirt, and string debris find its way into the bearing itself?

If I’ll decide to clean some of my bearings at some point, I’ll want to keep it as simple as possible. I don’t want to have to get lighter fluid or acetone or anything like that. I’m thinking I might try to use 99% alcohol. That would do a decent enough job, wouldn’t it?

On the topic of strings, my strings arrived yesterday. So far I’ve put on the Sochi thick string and I like the feel of it very much. It feels soft and almost a bit bouncy. I’m curious to see how long it will hold up as far as durability.

99% alcohol works great for cleaning, it’s what I use. As for dust and such, it finds a way in, even with the “dust covers” in place, it still finds a way in. It doesn’t take much to clean either, just submerge and soak for a few minutes or just splash it around for 30 seconds. I then blow it out with canned air, add a fraction of a drop of lube with a needle, and it’s good to go.

I once found a cat hair from our black cat inside the face of a water proof dive watch!

Having received the Topyo Noema bimetal yoyo earlier this week, my experience thus far is that it’s a bit easier to learn tricks on it, and to then transition those tricks to cheaper yoyos. Two tricks that I haven’t been able to get at all on other yoyos before, I managed to get on the Noema. Still not fully consistent, but I’m landing the tricks once out of every few tries, which is better than never landing it at all. Specifically, the Ripcord and the 1.5 Mount. After having landed these a couple of times on the Noema and getting a feel for it, I was then able to try it on my cheaper yoyos and land it a few times as well. I’d probably have learned them on the cheaper yoyos either way, but it would have probably taken longer. Thus, I’m glad that I got the Noema now, rather than waiting a year or two to get a higher end yoyo like some people had suggested.

Great color and is shiny

Yeah if you’re still hanging around the 40 dollar range you’ll likely see some for sure improvement in feel, regardless of design probably, if you spend more like 100 bucks. Simple answer . Some psychology involved in that “feel” also.
