I’m curious about the performance level of the Laguna, almost every delrin I’ve tried hasn’t really impressed me but almost all of them make a claim of performance that didn’t end up meeting my expectations.
That being said it being a One Drop release has re-activated the Delrin sensors in my brain, so if anyone could give me some insight into the performance level of this yo-yo I’d appreciate it.
Density wise delrine should play similar to Al. I like a fun delrin throw myself but to each their pen. I know some folks have a mental block if a yoyo is plastic
I’ve owned a decent amount going back to the first Crucial Milk and tried others at meets or contests, I’ve just dealt with more misses than hits personally.
I’ve not played the Laguna, but if you want a performant Delrin, the Cabal 2 slaps. Best of both worlds in terms of Delrin feel and metal-level performance imo. The MK1 Asterisk is also dope, but I slightly prefer the pyramatte finish and organic shape of the Cabal 2.
Laguna is rather large and thus has pretty solid spin time for a plastic (huge undercut rims) i am a huge fan but I might be biased also super cozy in hand, all the angle transitions have a nice big radius on them.
Pic is Rainier alongside Laguna, it’s a big delrin
This is not true. 6061 aluminum is about 1.9 times denser than Delrin — almost twice as heavy for the same volume.
All plastic yoyos are going to have less performance than aluminum unless the designer of the alu is trying to make a less performance focused yoyo.
I am not saying there isn’t a place for plastics in the lineup at all and I was able crush some combos with Laguna no problem. The idea that a plastic yoyo can match alu is just wrong though.
If you want something performance focused, get a metal yoyo. If you want something that feels nice and is still good enough for hella tricks, then derlin can do that.
Often brands over promise the performance and then the experience of the plastic yoyo is underwhelming. Idk just manage your expectations and you’ll be good.
Everyone is right that larger dia helps performance but still…idk just yeah expectations and stuff

As someone who owns a Laguna, I think your assessment without throwing it is spot on, it does lack a bit of spintime and plays with less power than comparable metal/bimetal yoyos. This however, does not mean that it isn’t fun as hell, and I don’t think the performance hit is drastic enough to steer people away from the yoyo (definitely the case with some other plastics in the past for me). I also really like the feel of delrin in the hand. Cabal 2 has more spintime to me but lacks the width.
But if your main criteria for buying a yoyo is performance.. I would consider the boosted rainier out of all onedrop’s offerings.
i dont mean to pick on you, but POM (delrin is a brand) has a density of 1.4g/cm3, where 6061 aluminum has a density of 2.7g/cm3. thats why delrin throws have so much material packed in places to get weight where they want it to go, and why delrin can never play similar to aluminum.
the only polymer i’m aware of that can play reasonably close to aluminum is PTFE (teflon), which has a density of 2.2g/cm3 and has only been used on a few throws. G2 Ghost, and Freshly Dirty Orchid come to mind.
what make delrin/pom special for me is highwall yoyo + very low friction that string have on delrin surface
OG crucial Milk / cream explains this silky fast feeling so good
also, it is soft enough that micro vibration do not develop while you throw, and most throw vibrations disappear being soaked into material (everyone know with a titanium that if you hit it when it spinning it is going to vibrate until spin dies or you touch it with your hand to remove the vibrations)
even though delrin and POM supposed to be “the same” ,to me there is still some difference. real delrin is much more oily/glossy/wet and slippery surface than Chinese POM in the experience of all the delrin/pom I own (there many)
The laguna slaps, its awesome for 5A, but if youre specifically looking for a high performance delrin, get the new Crucial Milky. So much more powerful and more spin.
