Is there a difference between speed bearings and standard yoyojam bearings?

The Speed bearings are stainless steel while the standard ones are not.

Also, that means that the standard ones turn brownish with time, but the speed bearings do not.

color of the bearing doesn’t matter though. I have a severely tarnished stock YYJ bearing that is ugly as can be but is one of my most unresponsive bearings I have.

But the colour of the bearing stains the string, making it rather unsightly.

That sounds more like rust than tarnish. Tarnish doesn’t rub off on things whereas rust does.

i assume speed bearing is more unresponsive and faster/sleeps longer?
