If their became a shortage of aluminum so bad that yoyo manufactures had to go with another material for their mass produced runs, what would you hope they use.
Is the scenario possible, yes. Is it likely, probably not.
I just ask that you humor me if you are so inclined.
I recall yoyo factory out out the “Tree” as a one off hemp yoyo given out on 420 to maybe 4 people picked randomly.
With only 4 made, who knows how it played. If it could be done in mass and plays well, that would be an interesting avenue.
I imagine though that it would lead to a huge plastic rennasonce of sorts, bringing forth innovation in the field we could only dream of, or at least I’d like to think that.
It’s possible as well that many go the delrin route. I’m okay with this (looking at you onedrop.)
I’d love to see unresponsive wooden yoyos become common place. I had an unresponsive Spinworthy that just blew my mind. Had a manic episode a while back and gave it away to a random 10 year old girl (no regrets)
Who knows, maybe mass runs of titanium’s could lead to price points in the $150 range.
Steel could become the new norm.
Some companies might just call it quits.
Anyone want to give a crack at what they imagine would happen?
if it were to happen, I would personally stop buying yoyo (as I am doing) thanking God for having much more than I need to have fun … this is because aluminum is the metal that is most suitable for construction due to its physical and mechanical characteristics of objects that must have certain specifications of weight and dimensions, allowing full design freedom … titanium alone allows to obtain extremely functional objects with similar and even more exasperated characteristics. The remaining metals and materials force at least some design compromises that in the best of hypotheses are barely acceptable, often coming to be deleterious.
There have been some significant supply chain strains relating to metal causing delays and significant cost increases so uhh …we night actually find out soon if nothing improves.
No shortage of aluminum here for domestic traceability certified, many supply chain issues currently are because we’ve moved so much production off shore…
Metallurgy still exists, zinc content and other ratios can be tweaked (6061, 7075, 5086, many other series etc). Aluminum is a wide array of materials… not just “aluminum”
The Rev-G was one from the boom that is considered to be one of the worst of all time. However with modern carbon layup techniques, this concept could be revisited with a better out come if cost weren’t prohibitive.
