What the blue blazes is that?!
That’s the Survivalist
You got some battle scars on that puppy!
The other sides even better but got to get the sw engraving in
YESSSS
I have a Plasm now, and holy crap this thing is AMAZING as a responsive. Easily one of the best I’ve ever played.
My one criticism: the gap is, in my opinion, a bit too narrow. Other than that it’s basically perfect for a plastic responsive.
(I have never tried the wood or metal, but @Glenacius_K himself told me the plastic is the best one, and based on playing it HOLY CRAP IT REALLY IS GREAT)
It really is like the “perfect chill YoYo” imo, just so good for low effort 0a and just tossing around. They knocked it out of the park with this one
Once more Plasm B-grades drop I plan on trying to get a few for friends. Even my friends that don’t yoyo love the plasm. Maybe I can bring them over to the yoyo life.
If you want to widen the gap on the PLASM, you can put a 3mm wide mr85 bearing in it. I will warn you though, it could cause it to kickback.
What I recommend instead is to try it with a thinner string. I use different thicknesses of string on my various fixies/responsives to fine tune the throw - not so much the response though (that’s more about pads and torsion around the axle).
The world needs more Plasm, with a slightly wider gap!
in the meantime I agree with @Xanadu thinner string is the way to go here!
Agreed, I love doing 1A responsive (split the atom, kwijybo, rollercoaster, etc..) mixed in with 0A stalls and what not.
The Plasm can do both. The 0A on it is perfection, but the aforementioned 1A responsive tricks had to be pulled off perfect or I’d get snags. Not a lot of forgiveness on that front.
It’s so good at 0A though that it is a steal already at the price and a legend of a throw.
If it could be revamped though with a slightly wider gap size to allow less snagginess/more forgiveness on 1A responsive tricks, and keep the tight 0A stalls and responsiveness magic that I lying and MR85 can obtain, it would probably be the best responsive yoyo ever made (by my standard at least.)
I need to try the metal one, just to see for myself (and I have one on the way), but I totally believe @Glenacius_K when he says the plastic version is best..
It reminds me of old school Turbo BumbleBee where they transitioned to the metal Cold Fusion, and the feel was off.. the plastic TBB had a better overall weight distribution and experience.
Okay, so just so you know, the RBC inspired the PLASM but they are different designs. The RBC is smaller, lighter (48g), and more rounded (has a smaller catch zone). Also you may be disappointed to know that it has a smaller gap (2.3mm vs the PLASM’s 2.4mm).
The RBC is still my favourite, but I do like the PLASM as well. Also noted I play both as fixed axles. In fact, I play almost all of my modern responsives as Postmodern Fixed-axles.
I have been playing ol’ Blueberry here (left) pretty much everyday for almost 3 years now. Well above 1000 hours of play now.
Every time I see a blue Tio, I wish I snagged one. Still love my raw, but the blues are beautiful.
Every time I see Blueberry I yearn, and now a blue El Tio! Double yearn!
Odd, so the metal version is LIGHTER and an even narrower gap.. hmm.. yeah, maybe the Plasm is the better of the two? Let’s find out soon! My metal one is OTW!
My favourite is my original wooden Bloodcell @codinghorror, but yes, the plasm is a higher performance 0A yoyo.
The Plasm was made to address some of the problems I saw in the RBC, such as the inner walls being too low and the gap being a hair too narrow. The plasm is better performing than the RBC. It had to be plastic because we couldn’t make it with these dimensions in metal without it being >60g.
Well, maybe, but did you consider using .. titanium? or magnesium?
Magnesium could work, but extremely expensive and risky.
