I meant to put my two cents in regarding flat packing yoyos. I would be comfortable receiving a yoyo packed how @codinghorror described. I still feel a bit of an ick factor with regards to using mailers over boxes though. A box just feels more secure to me, and packed well it should survive anything short of being absolutely crushed by something really heavy like a service elevator door.
I think I’m also a little prejudiced against it because I’ve received yoyos disassembled in mailers but with the axle still installed or fully assembled but shoved in a mailing envelope (cough cough certain non-YYE vendors). I know that’s not what Coding is advocating but it just makes me go “ugh” whenever I think of receiving a throw in a padded mailer.
Anyone else try pirateship.com? I found it while looking for an alternative to Log in to your PayPal account (that’s not working for me, and PayPal customer support could not fix it). It’s perfect for the self-described lazy like @codinghorror, and it supports first class. It’s kinda like a free, much easier to use stamps.com.
I just printed a first class postage/mailing label for a box I’m sending someone here on the forum, and the tracking number is showing up on USPS.com. It was even cheaper than the one shipping estimate I was able to get from PayPal.
Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I have learned how to get shipping even cheaper.
A website called pirate ship gives you discounted rates because they buy so much from the usps. You can also ship a box in a poly bag with them. It wasn’t any cheaper though. They also do cubic shipping which is cheap if it is a small heavy box. Hope this saves someone a couple bucks.
