How Far Do You Travel?

I drive a lot for my service mission assignments, but until now I’ve never stopped to see how far I travel in a 5 day work week. After doing some math, I discovered that on average, Monday through Friday, I’m traveling 600 miles a week, sometimes less, sometimes more. This doesn’t include any unplanned service, monthly meetings, or driving unrelated to my mission.

I hope that’s not a lot compared to some others on here. How far do you travel over the course of a five day work week?

That’s a lot of miles! I know that if I’m traveling for rehearsals regularly that I’ll probably get around 200 miles in a week, but if not then it’s usually pretty low since I work from home. When I was working in the office I’d probably get closer to 300-350ish if I were to guess but I can’t remember

That sounds like a lot but I have a short commute, and including weekends I drive no more than 250

Well, each morning I walk down to the driveway and start up my truck and drive down the street. I make a U turn and come back and park across the street, directly across from my house. And then I walk all the way back home.

so… I would say during the 5 day week, prolly 600 feet?

As a work from home person I barely drive 2000 miles a year but when I was in the office I would drive 80 miles every single work day

Once upon a time I drove about 200 miles a day for my job, store to store. Up at 3am to hit the road, in bed at 11pm. NEVER AGAIN. I now drive two blocks. I’d walk but I’m not carrying a ladder and I’m not getting bit by a dog.

I’m a mobile auto glass technician, I’m right there with you at about 600 a week typically, sometimes up to 1000. Depends where the jobs are week to week.

I do about 60mi a week of commuting, including stoping home for lunch, 2.9 miles each way, 4 times daily.

I stop home to save money on eating out and to help my wife with whatever madness is going on with her at-home Childcare business (and to dazzle the lil’-uns with YoYo tricks lol)

I recently got a promotion that moved me to a different state. I had to stay with family for a while and commute to my new location, about 55 miles each way. Not a terrible drive, took me about an hour or so.

Now that I have a place in town, I drive about 16 miles each way. Still a little bit of freeway time, but I don’t mind it.

Varies wildly depending on the week and where I’m working for me. My office is 1.5 miles from my house, so for a week spent in the office the work commute is 15 miles, but once you add driving kids to and from school and all the extracurricular activities it probably averages closer to 300 miles (there’s almost always a sport tournament ~90 miles away). Travel weeks usually include at least 200 miles of driving, sometimes closer to 800 miles, plus anywhere from 1,500 to 15,000 miles flying.

Through most of the pandemic I worked a one week on one week off secondment schedule on a site that was ~900 miles away. For the first few months company policy didn’t allow flying, so I’d have to drive there and back. Then flights were allowed, but only if they were direct, and the only airport with direct flights to a city near the site was 110 miles from home, so my work week would start on Sunday with a 110 mile drive to the airport, ~900 mile flight, then 130 miles to the site. Then Mon-Sun would have ~60 miles of driving, followed by the trip home the following Mon.

Brooo, I hope you had a car that could tank that many miles! There comes a point where, if I had to choose between fuel efficiency and reliability, I’d actually choose reliability. Sure, I only get 20-21 miles to the gallon, but unscheduled service is minimal!

Most of my driving for work is either a company truck or a rental car. When I do use my personal vehicle I get reimbursed for mileage, so it’s not too bad.

Honestly, it was kind of a vibe listening to this at 5:30 this morning. :joy:

My job was gearing up to expect a lot of travel. My employer has call centers in more than 50 countries. I made it out to the Philippines for about 3 weeks, and there were plans for a few trips a year out to places like India, Amsterdam, Ireland, Mexico, Serbia, Madagascar, Egypt, you name it. My disability hit and my doctor advised no travel at all. Honestly doesn’t bother me because I don’t really like traveling and some of those locations would likely be the death of me with my condition. I work from home now and my commute is usually a flight of stairs to the basement office.
