Highlights from ANOTHER early-mid 2000's collection I purchased

I purchased a large collection a few days ago from another local thrower who had been in the game for a good while. I paid a decent chunk of change for these because there are some seriously cool pieces. I just finished photographing and cataloging all of them. Please join me for a drool sesh over some of the highlights from this collection purchase! NFS! Don’t ask :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Figured out thanks to my buddy Jacob, the modded YoYoJam is a Dragonjam. It has also been very nicely modded for C bearing and recessed response.

Lots of gold here. I loved MO’s viper mods and that modded DragonJam looks great too.

The Roo-yo is a really cool piece because it tests an interesting hypothesis: if dimples reduce air friction on a golf ball, could they work for yo-yos too?

The answer was “probably not”. Or at least “not enough to make it worth it” and the timing of the release coincided with the beginning of grinds, which benefited from smoother surfaces.

I would be curious to see this theory tested with modern tech. The Roo is decently smooth, but the rubber o rings on the axle to center the bearing definitely leave some room for improvement. I’m sure the result would still be pretty similar with a standard bearing seat, but who doesn’t want to see a ROO2!?

I also wonder if smaller dimples would be more effective? Or are these scaled to yo-yos curvature?

These kinds of posts are my very favorite, thank you for sharing

Always love to share the odd ball older yo-yos! I missed out on a lot of these when they came out, so I’ve just been getting what I can when I can and learning about them as I go. I started a collection catalog / sometimes yo-yo history account on Instagram called @suitcasefullofyoyos
