I have been trying for over a
Month to land this. What am I doing wrong? The rejection doesn’t seem to go over the string? Help! My son can land it but he can’t explain it. He has been rubbing it in my face. Dropbox
Aight I watched your vid and it doesn’t look like youre getting a super strong rejection, which you want to make the trick look as good as possible. You can focus on pulling the hands apart more to create more tension before the string pops off. You can do it off a weaker rejection also if you circle nth two times instead of one like you’re doing in your clips. A really strong rejection makes it look the best though, like barely any vanish motion is needed like that. Also that you for sending the videos. That made it clear to me that I think you should focus on trying to get a stronger rejection. Also try to add a second circle to carry the slack after the rejection and that can help also.
Im also going to link a bunch of tutorials. They all have different tips and tricks. One of them might be what you need to get the trick to click for you. Good luck!
The slack loop needs to carry up and around the string. Agree with @GTDropKnot that you need to work on rejecting it better and not be so focused on whipping it because it can actually interfere with the slack and make the trick harder.
Thank you. I did watch those videos. The rejection part just need to “click” for me. It too me over a month to finally get the boing boing motion. Super odd motion. I will try again.
Yeah I’ve been trying for months to land it too and was just about to make a thread asking for tips. I can get the rejection decently well but my problem is getting the slack around the string all the way. I hit it once the other night and was stoked. I’ve been trying with my organic throws for better rejections and nylon strings to get the string to move faster but still cant hit it.
Holy crap this is so cool, definitely gonna learn this one
I finally hit it. It’s not pretty like the video. But I swing the yo-yo forward more and actually try to do a ninja vanish motion. And not just using the rejection. Is it right?
The video’s not showing up for me — but if you’re landing it, you’re probably doing something right.
I spent way too long working on it recently, and the things that helped me (to add to the tutorials):
- Learn to do just the rejection first. Line them up, pull your NTH basically straight down while pushing the TH/yoyo away from you (I think Tyler mentions this?).
- Pinch with the NTH. Probably harder than you think you need to. You won’t need to do it forever, but it was a really helpful learning device for me.
- When you’re doing the ninja vanish part, don’t just go forward. Go at an angle (from closer to your TH to away from it).
- A little string tenson… kind of helps? I found this trick way easier with the string winding a little from being too tight, and way harder with it being a little too loose.
I mirrored your video because the embed is broken:
I think the biggest tip I could give is right after/as you reject, you want to be jerking your NTH kinda back up towards you a bit to try to get the slack to form up more and come around. I’ve found pushing the yoyo out away from you more helps too. It takes a bit of trial/error and feel to get it down, and also some yoyos reject easier than others. But essentially the larger you can get that slack loop the easier the trick becomes.
tried to explain it with a screenshot:
slowmo take from me to hopefully try to show what i mean:
Other things I’m seeing
- The rejection is a little more of a hop out than it should be / why the rejection is kind of weak. The tip to push the yoyo away more is great and should help.
- The difference in timing is super clear comparing the two — @DaddyOldBeard you’re making it two totally separate steps (reject, then whip), whereas @fradiger really nicely has it in one motion.
Also, @fradiger our nail polish matches right now and that’s neat.
oh yes. that’s the clean way. nice. thanks for the tips I will have to practice.
