HELP: Need pictures from the Drew Tetz Barracuda (Barradrewda) packaging for a Fanart

Hello everyone, Bruz is here! For those who don’t know me, I’m a cartoonist, freelance illustrator and traditional artist, in the last few years I’ve been trying to make “YoYo Character Fanarts”, and one of those characters was Jason Week’s Drew Tetz Art for the OG Barracuda. But the big problem with me not having made a fanart of this character until now is that there are few reference images of him. I have no idea of colors and I have no idea of the Barracuda Robot (the villain), so that’s why I came here to ask for help so that they could send me photos or even videos showing a 360 view of this packaging and even this yoyo so that I can make a fanart for Jason Week and Drew Tetz. If you are interested in just looking at my art, below I leave some of my most recent work. Thank you for your attention and as soon as I have results of the art I will post it here! If you have any photos or videos of the packaging, please comment here on this post. Thanks everyone!

Drew Tetz definitely likes Mega Man, so you could probably just reference NES era Mega Man (and Astro Boy/Tezuka) art to get a general style for the character design.

I doubt there was any more art done of this character than just the engraving/box image, but you could message Drew on Instagram and maybe they could dig up some old draft art for you that was made for that release. https://www.instagram.com/drewtetz/

Thanks, good idea! I’ll be sending him a message and bringing results, thanks for the tip again! Yes, he would really like this 8-Bit era, I even remember seeing his videos with kendama in pixelated format, it was really cool

I’m looking forward to whatever you make, your art is really nice.

Just to try and be a little more helpful I mentally associated the robo cuda as matching one of these color schemes, both being examples from Mega Man 2.

I managed to find this photo on the Jason Week website, it’s good but I still don’t have a good idea of proportions, making it difficult to draw, but we can still see how it was based on these enemies you just sent me (it also reminded me a lot of the enemies from Sonic The Hedgehog)

Whoa, this is sick, thanks for finding that. The revelation of Dr. Rednuht now being a character in the yoyo universe is sort of epic and I wanna see them. I guess also implies Sonic inspiration like you were thinking.

This is really making me miss the old era of Jason Week art for so many old CLYW and various yoyo releases. I really wasn’t expecting there to be more art on the box, especially with how barren and minimal a lot of art for modern yoyos is. Hoping this means Drew can maybe find some old stuff or even get you in touch with Jason Week.

I just sent a message to Drew, let’s cross our fingers and wait for a response, because it’s an illustration that, if everything goes well, I hope to be able to send to Drew Tetz in person, I’m from Brazil, I’m very far from the big names in yoyo but I still try to send my physical works as a form of affection to them. I also really miss this era where great artists made and abused making special editions, one better than the other, I think the sense of art ended up being left a little behind, giving more space for competitiveness in the yoyo world and consequently, leaving aside those who treated yoyos like painting paintings.

Rednhut is the screen name of Rafael Matsunaga and the Barracuda is his sig so it all connects together. I think it’s more of a Dr. Wiley (the bad guy in MegaMan) reference vs. Sonic but there’s a lot of similarities is old video games.

Also @abnfmpnk, I talk with Drew pretty regularly still and let him know you were trying to get in touch with him so hopefully that helps.

No worries. Megaman art and soundtrack are insanely good. Have a playthrough running in the background on YT while you work.

Also Drew is one of my all time faves and RAF is a legend
