Has anyone broken your guys’ yoyos?

I really try to avoid dings, but don’t mind too much when I get them, unless they are bad.

I had a crazy deep cut in one of my older yo-yos after falling from high up while spinning onto our driveway. I couldn’t do grinds because the ding would cut open my finger and I would bleed. Finger spins were fine, but the dna was impossible because the string rubs against the side, and it would cut the string off :grimacing:

I received a magnesium prototype as a gift from one of my favourite yo-yo manufacturers at worlds 2023 in Osaka. I believe 4 were made. It’s an amazing yo-yo. (I won’t say the brand as it hasn’t officially been announced yet.)

At the worlds after party I was hanging out with one of the contestants who had actually won his division.
It was early hours of the morning and we were all intoxicated, not too bad, but micro motor skills were 100% effected.
I asked the contestant if he wanted to try this proto out. He said sure and started shredding, one combo after the next and next minute, Dingkt - Nice battle scar from the tarmac.
He was very apologetic and felt so bad. I wasn’t upset, it’s still smooth and now this magnesium proto went from 1 of 4, to a 1 of 1, with a world champion battle scar.

I dinged my shutter on concrete at school one day, and it gave it ultra vide. When I got home I just filled it down with some sandpaper and it works fine

Not necessarily “broken”, but I remember like 12 years ago I did a half swap of my Northstar with a friend at yoyo club that had another color. I decided I didn’t like it, and we swapped back, but my previously fine Northstar now had extremely intense pulse vibe it didn’t have before and it was never the same. RIP Northstar

Gave my throw to my child (baby) to look at…the anno now has two small teeth shaped scratches.
I also have a treasured memory

Yep, broken a few cheap plastics by stripping them. Idk who this guy is but when I find him I’ve got a bone to pick :triumph:

At club a few months back a few 8 year old joined. We had a good time but my monarch did go flying at some point across a concrete gazebo and lost its spacers. My iceberg got a few dings, my dif e yo monster got a gnarly gash and a looper got cracked. All of that was mostly fine but the worse was a kid throwing another guys brand new throw I don’t remember what it was but it was not cheap and it smashed right into the concrete.

After that I started bringing a sacrificial plastic yoyo box and booking indoor space with carpet. Seems a bit safer than a gravel pit.

My wife when I first got a first base smashed it right into the driveway and cracked it. I had legitimately just opened the box.

My son found my match and loop 720 pairs once and tried to help me and cranked them back together without the bearing in. All 4 were cracked and broken. I shouldn’t have left them unattended while cleaning them.

My son also has dragged many of my yo-yos around the house adding new interesting dings.

In the end they are toys. It’s gut wrenching but nothing I won’t recover from.

I always attempt to save a broken yoyo even if it seems hopeless. Sometimes it works out otherwise parts. I rarely trash a yoyo

Same. Like my bent avalanche is now just a display piece lol

One of them was completely done. I tried super gluing the inside of the yoyo to get the axle nice and tight but it never worked

About a week ago I got in a fight with my wife and we went our separate ways in the house for a bit.

I was really upset about it - and was in our tile living room with my hybrid fulvia. Finished throwing and missed the bind - bang right on the floor.

Must have hit it in just the right way because it was done. Vibed so bad it was unplayable and couldn’t fix it. Had a little funeral for it - still miss it lol

I can safely say I myself have broken a couple plastics by accident, but never had anyone else break one of mine.

My kids got to this one not long ago…. Was hoping to fix it but couldn’t find all the pieces. Will use it for spare parts I guess! :man_shrugging:t2:

I work with kids who have some additional needs and have some yo-yos in the classroom knowing their lives will be short lived. I already had two yo-yos from a starter kit of three disappear, a YYF Wedge die, and listen to responsive and unresponsive yo-yos clang against the floor a couple times a week.

The trade off is seeing a few of the kids really get into it, learning how to bind, loop, do some basic tricks, and be engaged.

If “anyone” counts as myself I bashed by plastic 000 into the ground full power and it’s broken/earthquake vibe now. Never had another person damage my throws.

I shattered a butterfly and cracked the other one trying to land a simultaneous 3a trapeze stall with them  lol I got two more now tho and Imma keep trying  Also stripped my first unresponsive yoyo, echo 2 :sob:. Not sure how exactly that happened but it was certainly user error.

If this happens again, you can use the back of a spoon and press hard into the ding and it will usually flatten out so it won’t cut you or strings anymore. If that doesn’t work, sandpaper.
