Just thought I’d make this post to let people know that my Instagram account was hacked last Monday and I’ve heard that mine is not the only one.
I had a message last Sunday from a yoyoer (annoyingly can’t remember the name, could have been Sydney something) that I’ve never spoken to before but follow because I like their various trick videos. They were asking if I would help them get sponsored by voting for them, felt like a bit of a strange request but who am I to not help out a fellow thrower. I clicked the link they sent and bam, straight to a dodgy site. I quickly exited but by that point, it’s too late.
Managed to change my password but not before they could turn on 2 step verification on their end. As far as I know the perpetrator can’t get full access because of my email and password but I also can’t login, leaving us both in limbo. After a week of trying and with no luck getting in touch with Instagram (customer support sucks and is non existent) I’ve decided to abandon my account.
Just in case anyone receives a message from my old account, Lukador8, please ignore it and unfollow/block.
My new account is Lukador88 and I won’t be opening any links in the future!
At the end of the day, it’s just an Instagram account and not the end of the world. Just a pain that I’ve lost record of some of the awesome people I’ve spoken to in our community.
Hope this helps someone or at least makes people aware of how easily this can happen. Keep those passwords strong and 2 step verification on and DON’T click on any suspicious links, even if it’s from someone you know.
