The song, “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon was believed to have been written about Warren Beatty. In actuality, it was written about North Carolina senator, Jesse Helms after a brief tryst left Simon feeling jaded.

This is not the first time I have heard this, and I have no doubt that it is true. Many celebrity jilted lovers will write ballads seemingly about one individual, but subtly directed at another.
Case in point: it is widely believed Alanis Morisette’s alternative smash hit “You Ought To Know” was directed at former lover Dave Coulier, when it was really a jab at Full House co-star Joey Stamos, after standing her up on their fourth date… a midnight showing of the epic film ‘Speed’.
