Recently there has been an uptick of fake BGM’s, many of these are end up marketed as prototypes and are flooding the BST market. This conversation originally started on discord but I wanted to make sure it gets properly archived, as this information might be useful for others to validate whats real, whats not, and if they got scammed or accidentally duped. This is not to point fingers at anyone, if you have one of these or have more information, please feel free to drop it down below. I will be updating this doc and its formatting/information as it goes since this might be slightly incorrect or majorly incorrect and the goal is accuracy.
Dead giveaways on bad fakes:
The ring is too large when mating with the AL body which ends up feeling sharp in the hand.
It can be hard to see but they seem to have a flat spot on the rim which aims to mimic the real thing, however this usually ends up overly present depending on the batch/run.
ring fit is good, and machining quality rivals the real thing
Pay attention to the bad fake’s poor ring fit along with the thin flat section. Ring size is also considerably longer.
Some other Notes:
Color options of known fakes: Gold, Black, Gunmetal, Clear/raw, Red, Blue, Green, some blasted some polished.
Price of a fake: $40 off of certain sites.
there will come a time when not only TP, but other brands will also have to make certificates of originality for verification on the website through a serial code
And in the used market, only buy when the person has the retail order invoice
Aliexpress is being flooded with these. Including YYR Draupnir 44clash edition, A-RT 420, CLYW Chief, Cliff, TP Hinemosu, all counterfeits.
btw, nice post!

Most of the fakes are pretty bad, the ‘good’ BGM fake is like 15-20% worse than the original. The CLYW/A-RT fakes are laughably bad, and the draupnirs are super hit or miss. You… definitely can tell real from fake ones quickly with them. The TP fakes are getting pretty good though, especially the hinemosus.
If its the lower effort copy then its a dead giveaway based on the ring fit. If its the good copy, then its hard to tell since from what I’ve seen the weights are exact, play varies just slightly but without having all 3 versions comparisons are hard to make.
Once a replacement scale comes in along with some calipers, I’ll be going through trying to find the differences.
Yeah I agree. However at this point it’s almost impossible, especially with the older TP’s and even the newer releases due to their BST worth.
This doc will hopefully save a few folks down the line once it gets polished up. Since sellers can check prior to listing, and traders can understand what they really got in the mail.
Ugh, now i feel like i gotta check through mine. How did you guys know it was fake for yours?

Honestly the most dead giveaway is the ring fit and the cuts on the ring.
TP rings usually have very good fit, so while it’s possible that there’s a little gap between the ring and the body (especially on older TP models like the anubis), they should be flush to the touch all the way around. You’ll never feel a noticeable “bump” or lip on the ring on a real TP yoyo unless the rings have been dislodged for some reason.
