My dog doesn’t even register it as a thing. She’ll walk right up to me if she wants something and if I don’t stop or redirect it she gonna get bopped.
Such a cute Dog, Dan! I know youll get it figured out soon.
I can imagine the noise bearings make when they’re spinning is really disturbing.
My cat always wants to play with yoyo strings but not the yoyo itself. They especially love thick white strings.
I’m just gonna bring up again do NOT leave any cat alone with yoyo strings for even a moment, my girl ate an entire string once and it was a 400 dollar emergency vet trip to make her throw it back up. If your lil fella loves to eat everything be careful because a string like that can really mess them up.
cats and string is interesting. i found out a month or so ago when mine downed a string. apparently the danger is if it gets caught somewhere on the way down and it becomes a linear obstruction. Just eating a string isn’t inherently dangerous. that’s why I’m surprised they induced vomiting if it wasn’t stuck. i was instructed to feed mine bread too make sure the string wasn’t getting stuck and observe. i didn’t end up having to bring him in and he’s fine, but anyway yea don’t let them eat the string is still the main idea lol
I have a similar problem with these guys. They lost interest in the Yoyo, but always have to touch my foot. I move, and they move. The only solution I’ve found is to go outside and they run around or do a trick inside in between throwing a ball. Maybe I just need to learn horizontal ![]()

Congrats dogs are amazing and I love my beautiful puppy girl so so much.
I got a gate to keep her out of the kitchen when I am cooking and go into there to play sometimes. I also bring her to the dog park a lot and then she will be super tired and ignore me playing. If she is like bored and trying to play w me then she will mess w me when I play yoyo. She likes to come up behind me and stand between my legs lol I just stop if she’s doing that. I haven’t hit her yet and it’s not worth the risk really. Ya got a dog now and might just need to play a bit less yoyo but it’s worth it.
Checkout McCann dog training on youtube also. They got a ton of vids. be consistent so she doesn’t get mixed messages and re enforce the behavior you want to see over and over with food or praise or both. Don’t come close to me is probably an advanced skill but sit and stay for an extended period of time could be a good thing to start working on. I had been doing that one so I could yoyo and she would just sit there but kind of fell off when life got super busy. It had been working though hmmm…
Dogs show little interest in the yoyo, and can be distracted with their own toys if they want my attention.
The baby, on the other hand, is OBSESSED with my yoyos and will harass me incessantly if I try to throw with her around. Few things make her happier than being handed one of my yoyo (which have a limited amount of time before they’re being drug across the floor by their strings). I don’t get to practice much anymore as a result ![]()
