I’m relatively new to throwing, but have been so confused by the lack of sealed bearings for responsive throws. They make so much more sense to me. I’ve been using double rubber shielded bearings in all of my 3D printed responsive throws, for the express reasons that they have a snappier response and require exponentially less maintenance.
The greasebucket is interesting. It’s got a similar response to a standard 2RS, but it’s also quite a bit noisier. Sounds kinda like a very quiet muffled rainstick.
That’s just one of the reasons I’m a big fan of docpops Weekender. Super tight response w/ their sealed A bearings. Another cool tidbit, a buddy of mine will still lube those sealed bearings by using a large gauge needle to inject his own lubricant in
Swapped out the bearing and threw in a type x string. Changed the side effects. Maybe it will grow on me…I have been playing with el mijo a lot for my responsive fix and that little monster slays so I guess I have to detox from that and give this thing more time
Throwing mine more today and for me, it plays exactly as I had expected and hoped. For science, I’m going to see how long my bearing actually holds up with the coveted snap, never really timed it.
Little bit more fun with it, exploring pull starts.
My favorite yoyo is actually a @MinerJ 3d print with a Weekender bearing in it. The stock bearing MinerJ uses is awesome too, but whatever docpop used in the Weekender is perfection
Couldn’t agree with ya more my guy! It’s wild, a lot of C’s and D’s coming out that require a lot to get a tight response.
Meanwhile one of doc’s A bearings can roll off under your couch, stay there for a year acquiring a coating of cathair, shake, Dr Pepper and who knows what, pull it out and still works like a charm.
This is the one in question. If I was told to keep one yoyo, I’d grab this one, because it is the best 0A throw I have ever tried, and 0A has become my jam
Edit: But thankfully I can keep more than one, and I definitely will be grabbing a Deepest State with a bucket bearing
Traxxas grease is what doc pop uses. Stuff stays in the bearing real well and makes it play very responsive. You too can cram a bearing full of grease to get the same effect
just make sure you keep hold of the retention clip as you put it back in so it doesn’t ptwang across the room, get lost, and end up in a bare foot 2 days later while drinking my coffee…(totally not a first hand account)
It helps to keep a finger tip on the opposite end of the clip as you pop it out so it doesn’t do that, and when I put them in I guide the first half in, hold the clip down at the middle once I get it mostly in, and guide the rest of it around the perimeter of the bearing with my finger nail or other implement (I have thin wood dowels for watch repair).
