Dead Replay

I’m favorite replay died after less than a year of play. Just popped a new bearing in it maybe that’s what did it.

Anybody know a metal yoyo that plays like this with about the same weight? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Died? Define “died”.

Yeah The spin died way down can’t get the same bang per throw out of it and i’m really throwing it too. It just fizzes out.

Is there a metal replay? Cause I’d probably buy it.

Did you try putting the old bearing back in?

Can you post a photo of the bearing seat on both sides? With the bearing removed.

Metal Replays came in one of the YYF Mystery Boxes and the B grade sales , they come up on the BST regularly.

No i’ll put the old bearing back in. I can’t take pictures @MarkD what should I look for as far as bearing seat damage is concerned?

Sounds like it could be a dirty bearing, a bearing not as good as the original, or a messed up or dirty bearing seat.

If you set the bearing in the yoyo without putting it back together, and flick it, does it free spin? Or is there anything it catches on?

Also, replays are very susceptible to over tightening. So check if you loosen it a little if it spins better. Then you can loctite it in to place (superglue works too) for a little while before the bearing seat destroys itself.

As far as throws that are similar, I’d say stick with Gentry’s yoyos. The shutter feels neutral to me like the replay pro does. Nothing about them stands out as weird, they’re just extremely capable for anything you want to do.

I think the new bearing I popped in doesn’t sound right. … I put it close to my ear and there’s more rattle. There’s free spin on both bearing just the old one’s better.

Maybe I’ll pop a new ceramic in it… idk

I’ve had it so long i don’t think I over-tighten it. In fact the stop here arrows have disappeared from wear.

Don’t know what this means, sounds very advanced and as if it takes much care. I don’t have that required surgeon’s skill.

Saving my shutter for when I get better :slightly_smiling_face:

@Travelingyoyokid what does a bearing seat look like when it’s lived it’s live?

Both sides should look the same with not much wear.

I had a similar issue where my replay bearing seats just died out. I ended up just getting another replay since they’re so cheap and can handle a lot of wear. As far as metal goes, my first concern would be how much you plan on spending and how you plan on using it.

On a related note, I think I just broked my replay by getting it squished in my backpack so uhh… any tips on correcting axle bending?

all the time everyday, and I want to be able to ding it on concrete

preferably nothing heavier than the replay

MagicYoYo Y01 Node.

It is a $14 monometal that plays every bit as good as a Shutter. And at that price, you won’t care if you ding it up.

You will honestly be hard pressed to find a throw heavier than the replay.

But if you want!

Node is a great cheap-o.
So is Auldey Orbis, Yoyoapartment General Sword, Topyo Colossus (I currently am digging on the IV), First base (in my experience much more sturdy than a Replay), Antidote, Skyva.

I’d recommend a first base for a near indestructible replacement.
