I think it’s cool the guy who picked up the yoyo showed an interest in yoyoing. It’s unfortunate it happened, but I wouldn’t get mad at the guy unless he intentionally damaged it. Walk The Dog is in most non-yoyoers eyes the most famous trick in the world, that’s probably why he did it. He probably figured since it was metal it would be durable enough to withstand the concrete. Don’t hate on the guy too much. You maybe could have made a friend instead of an enemy.
Believe me I know where you are coming from. My brother who is approaching middle age picks up my mint Madhouse Epic out of my case I had sitting there, puts the string on his finger, and does the hardest sleeper he can…right into the floor! I hear a loud ding-sound from the other room and ask “what was that?” He just had this ashamed look of disgust on his face. He wasn’t expecting the string to be so long, especially since the only other yoyo he’s ever thrown is a duncan imperial. I didn’t make him feel bad, since he already felt bad enough. I just said “it happens don’t worry about it”
Maybe take the guy a cheap plastic and say, this is for walk the dog.
I has a little spoiled kid tale my yoyo from a table at the pool. He did walk the dog, he dropped it and pulled it everywhere. Keep in mind Pools have rough concrete.
I snatched it from him, his mom looking at him the whole time in a soft tone like she could care less: “don’t take toys”
Man, I was mad, but I didn’t do anything. Besides he was 3-4 at the least.
If it’s not going to be awkward or create a situation, I agree with the earlier evaluation: $20-40. Ask for the middle ($30), again only if it’s not going to create a situation. If you get the $30, that’s pretty fair.
Not that I’m advising to never create awkward situations (which is a part of life), but it already sounds like you don’t want to do that and this guy meant no harm.
My nephew yoyos with me when ever we get the chance, which is about once a year, and I always let him throw anything in my collection, which are all basically mint. He tells me he is scared to ding it. I’ll tell him it’s okay if he does but try your best not to. But, in the back of my mind I’m thinking: c’mon ding it, ding it ding it! So I don’t need to worry about that Minty fresh throw any more.
Be careful next time and try taking it with you. I have people ask and assure me they know how to Yoyo, they usually don’t. Except one this guy used my Yoyo and busted out some old school front style it was cool; until he reliZed the Yoyo wasn’t going to back up for him lol
OP set his mint yoyo down. A stranger picked it up and damaged it. OP would like some compensation.
Not too outrageous if you ask me. If someone threw a brick at your car door and made a dent, would you say, “Oh, you just added character. Don’t worry about it”.
I get that dings in a yoyo aren’t a bad thing and we’ve all got to live with them, but when someone uses your possessions without your permission and then proceeds to damage them, I’d imagine you’d all be a little miffed.
It had a little damage already… But I had the whole car idea thingy already. But I was thinking if you were sleep walking and you took a hammer and put three dents in your friends car, without knowing a thing you were doing, then went back to bed. Would you pay for the damage you did?
