D size Bearing Pad Dimensions

Hi, I’m At from At Design Lab.
I’m currently doing some research for potential future yo-yo designs and wanted to get your input on D-size bearing response pads. I’ve noticed that the dimensions for these pads can vary depending on the shop or brand.

Here in Japan, the most common size seems to be 13mm inner diameter (ID) and 18mm outer diameter (OD). However, I’m aware that some other brands utilize pads with a 19mm OD.

As we at At Design Lab consider developing yo-yos that use D-size bearings in the future, we want to ensure we’re using dimensions that players prefer. So, my question to you all is:

If we were to produce a D-size bearing yo-yo, which pad size would you be happiest with?

Would you prefer the 18mm OD size, the 19mm OD size, or perhaps another dimension entirely? Are there any strong advantages or disadvantages you see with either common size?

Your feedback would be incredibly valuable in helping us make decisions for future production.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and preferences!

DD uses the 18mm designs bc it allows for a lower wall and snappier binds. The trade off is slightly less longevity in pad life, although material also plays a part in this.

Thank you for letting us know.
We’d like to use 18mm if it is also common standard in US.

I think 19mm is more standard because of the amount of companies that use FPM as their machine shop
