D*pi yoyos

hailing to yoyo people out there. If you like to play large diameter yoyo(s), I’m curious, let me know why you like them.

i wouldn’t use one for a competition or anything, but i’d use it for maybe 10 minutes just for fun, they are fun because the diameter is so big that it is kind of funny to play. first time i played the Variant i just started laughing lol.

I like yos of all different sizes but I have a couple of larger ones I really like, especially my Yeti 2.0. it’s good for learning certain kinds of tricks on (I’ve worked on Eli hops with it), but in general it’s just fun. I suppose the Yeti just screams “chill” to me and that puts me in a mellower mode of playing.

I like large diameters because don’t have to go for crazy weight distributions to get decent power. Having a big diameter is a way of getting a more powerful spin without resorting to metal rings, extreme shapes, or stronger and more expensive materials. The moment of inertia is how much torque is required to change an object’s spin. I think of it as the yoyo’s power, since it describes how difficult it is to stop it from spinning. For a cylinder, the moment of inertia is calculated by the equation I = 0.5M(R^2), where M = mass and R = radius. So increasing the radius will exponentially increase the yoyo’s power.
