I think part of the issue here is that folks are painting this as Taka vs. Hiro but it’s not. It’s Taka vs JYYF which is a sizeable group of people all making decisions as a group.
This is not two dudes fighting it out, this is one dude who worked with an organization, it didn’t work out, and he has issues with it.
Reading this is hilarious because it’s far less than what even I thought it would be lmao.
Now I’m just imagining Steve hustling around talking to ppl being like “Hey why’d we ban Taka what happened” and they’re just like “私たちも混乱しています、私たちは彼を禁止しませんでした” with his phone in his hand trying his hardest to figure out what happened and just being distressed asf.
“Do not attribute malice to what can easily be attributed to incompetence”.
For some reason Taka acted out based on hearsay without contacting anyone for clarity. Which then ultimately resulted in a stupid witch hunt for a statement lol.
I hope this forum stays this spicy for a while, its entertaining
If it was as simple as they didn’t actually ban him and taka just went off the rails then I still don’t understand why that couldn’t be said regardless of japans strict libel laws.
And then steve jumping into the thread commenting that taka went to the event but didn’t try to get in, just to cause a stir did you not need another lawyer to make sure you could say that?
Something else was going on but the tides have completely shifted with public opinion and the most well get is Steve trying to be vague to not cause another storm for the actual people that created this problem and more silence.
if you just want to ignore that, then sure it doesn’t make sense. but you can’t just ignore another cultures legal system lol. i’d be willing to bet no one in this forum understands japanese law better than the people who waited to have a response approved.
I’d also like to chime in to something that’s important to just, remember
These are yoyos. I get I said in another thread that the hobby matters more than “they’re just yoyos”… but no one is gonna attempt to sabotage someone else over yoyos. It doesn’t make sense that there’d be a shady international body out to sabotage whole businesses IN YOYO.
Our hobby is great, motivates people, and gives people a community to belong in. Ain’t no way it’s SO important mfs need to sabotage other businesses
Wow, first time on the forums in years, and I just figured I would give this a peek. Kinda glad I stick to my own little corners after reading through this.
This is ultimately irrelevant to what wound up being the situation here (since there wasn’t a ban), but I think a piece of information that’s important for many people in this thread to understand is:
In the case that an event does ban somebody for entirely justified and inarguable reasons, there’s a good chance you’ll never get an explanation from anybody associated with the event. You might hear it from other people that attended, or a rumour mill, or somewhere else. But if somebody from the event were to publicly share that information, they are opening the organizers up to extremely costly lawsuits that would likely drag the organizing body into bankruptcy trying to fight. If you have seen events do this, then that event’s organizers should probably get some legal consultation in future.
I appreciate that this is frustrating, but it’s the reality. The fact that we got an explanation this time is because it boiled down to a series of misunderstandings, and even then the organizers had to go through the proper legal channels to share that information in a way that didn’t open themselves up to risk. I get that speculating about potential drama can be fun (when you aren’t on the receiving end). Dealing with the very real consequences of a legal system is not.
Also makes the fireside chat timing make more sense… but it’s also way less dramatic. Guess I’ll just have to show up and ask my questions about yo-yoing with wrist struggles.
