Colonize the Moon for the sake of the Yoyo

Fun fact: the moon is white primarily due to the presence of titanium oxide, which is also the reason why your toothpaste is white.

We must make more titanium yoyos. We must mine the moon

Might be cheaper to distill it out of the toothpaste :upside_down_face:

Less fun because you don’t affect tidal forces that way

Titanium is quite abundant here on Earth. I believe that the relatively high price of titanium products in general is a factor of how difficult it is to turn into consumer goods - hard on cutting equipment, requires special conditions to weld (not applicable to yo-yos), etc.

A yo-yo made from lunar titanium oxide would solve the “titanium yo-yos are not expensive enough” problem though

Ok now we need to destroy the moon

Very stupid question incoming.

Can titanium be melted and poured into a yoyo mild to effectively reduce production cost? Is their anything heat resistant enough to make the mold from? Would Pam spray be enough to make it easier to get out of the mold?

I don’t know anything about Pam but there are plenty of ceramics that could take the heat. Tungsten, if someone happened to have it, would take that in stride

Well I know Pam as a cooking implement you silly goose

Yes definitely destroy the moon. It is potentially in US air space, and a potential danger to flying objects. Plus there is so much we don’t understand about it. There is a chance is was put there by a foreign entity as well, so blow it up ASAP.

I personally lost my mind when they came out with the Olive Oil Pam. I was like “Is this real life??!?”

I’m drinking, don’t mind me, Go Bears

The problem with casting a yoyo from a mold is that it’s far less precise than machining one. So the yoyo would be prone to vibe. At least that’s how I understand it, @yoyodoc could tell you for sure.

And no, we must not destroy the Moon! Elon will need it for a staging base to Mars.

This is kinda abstract and doesn’t answer anything directly related to topic. But your question made me think back to a Chemistry class I had in College.

The Professor suggested to the class that Scientists were not far off from inventing/formulating an Acid that could literally eat through ANYTHING on Earth. The class was dead silent. The Professor was obviously facing the class and somewhat puzzled by the silence.

He blurted out, ‘Any thoughts on this? Any questions’?

I said,’ Yes, I have a question. Once they make up 10 gallons of the stuff, what are they gonna keep it in’?

He abruptly said, ‘Mr. Chavez, you seem to lack imagination and forward thinking’.

I said, ‘Imagination and forward thinking, to me, would suggest, it would be more reasonable to consider and focus on creating a vessel first…… to “contain” a substance that could eat through ANYTNING but, the containment vessel’.

There was zero rapport between us at that point. And I withdrew from the class.

Funny stuff.

PS. I think we shouldn’t mess with the Moon. When I was a kid, people said the Moon was made of green cheese. The way the Worlds’ food sources are getting so contaminated, we just may need the Moon in the future as a food source…….otherwise, Pizza will become Extinct.

PS…by the way, here is the actual answer to your question> Why is it so challenging to cast titanium? - FS Precision Tech

Read the whole article. The conclusion will be easy to understand. Molding Ti can be done. But it would be so much more time and resource intensive, the costs could not be justified. The only Ti molding projects that may happen, are ones where they are Aerospace Projects, where the Peoples’ tax dollars are used to Subsidize the Costs(because there is No budget, when we are paying the Tab).

There are plenty of superacids out there with a PH of under 0 with 1 molarity concentration. They mostly have to do with metal complexes of organic compounds centered around alkali metals or cobalt if memory suits me right

If anyone was wondering… I can confirm that titanium is harder than moon rock.

Trying to shoot the moon, not a word of lie, with my Ti Silver Bullet, I wacked my moon rock Wisteria that was on my belt. So bummed as this was day 2 with the Wisteria. Oh well, I guess I can throw it without worry now. @Mhoodlum

Ok but who will help me destroy the moon

I’ve got a Ti Silver Bullet but I don’t think my throw is strong enough. How’s your arm?
